Problem with sit (backing up) This is Gizmo's latest thing, and it has me scratching my head! lol I offer a treat, but ask him to "sit" first. He will sit, but he backs up a good three feet first. Then he sits! (little stinker) He looks at me like..."well, I AM sitting Mom, where's the treat?" So, how do I get out of this one? He IS sitting! |
I don't really have a real answer for you, but I do know that Lexie used to do this after we first taught sit. It was kind of funny to watch her back up and then set her tiny hiny on the ground! Then one day it just stopped and she sat straight down without any backpedalling. So maybe this is something they just grow out of? Good luck! |

It is hard to explaine on the pc but if you hold the treat over there head so the have to look up it helps to get them to sit. This website may help you :) http://halife.com/living/train_puppy_sit.html |

Thanks! I will give those ideas a try. :) |
:D HAHA!! Einstein does it as well! I actually think its sooo cute but I am stumped as to get him not to do that! |
I think so too. I'm sure it doesn't help if I laugh when he does it! I need to try the suggestions given here. I do know that doing it against a wall doesn't work. He just dances away! LOL! |
I think my Bailey does that because we are so much taller than he, he backs up to maintain eye contact...at least that's what I tell myself lol. |
Try holding the treat close to your legs,in both hands. Call your pup to you, then tell him to sit. You may have to raise your hands slightly over his head so he will sit. Only give the treat when he is in the correct position, with lots of praise, of course. |
Thanks! We practiced some more today and he is doing much better. Well, I guess I'm doing much better! I just have to not be such a softie for his cute little head tilt. ;) |
