Would love to sign him up for a class, but... every time we leave the house and he sees a dog he barks like a maniac!!! At the vet when he sees a dog he barks like a nut!!! Will he be able to successfully go through a class with other dogs? Will they kick him out of class if he barks a lot, or will they be able to help me with that?? Anyone have advice on how to get him to not bark at other dogs? |
I would think a good trainer would be able to help you with that. Why don't you talk to them and see what they say? Good Luck! |
Yes, a good trainer will definitely help with that behavior. Good luck finding the right one. |
Call the trainer whose class you want to enroll in. Talk with him/her about the barking issue. I would almost guarantee that the trainer will tell you to sign your baby up and they will work on the barking as part of his training. |
I just finished the 3rd week at Petsmart for the puppy classes. Meeko goes crazy when he sees other dogs, he doesnt bark, just wants to run over and say hi. he was crazy the first week, but the first 10 mins of class is playtime. soo its good because they go crazy and get wild and then they get tired out and sit for the rest of the class. one lady did get kicked out last week tho. but her dog was a yelper. just high pitched yelping the whole entire class. our trainer did try to work with her tho. she didnt just throw them out. but after 3 weeks, all of her methods didnt phase the pup. i would go over to petsmart and talk to the trainer. the lady got her money back, soo it wasnt a total lost. i think the classes help. we just learned leave it, drop it, get it. which i wouldnt have known how to teach. the trainer tried getting the pup toys, giving her a bottle killed with the kong paste to lick, taught her owner how to massage her neck and ear to calm her, gave her rawhides to nibble on, her last resort was a lil mist bottle. the trainer also asked the owner to come to class early and stay later and the trainer walked her around the store for 10 mins to try and work with her. but Meeko still barks every once in a while, all the puppies do. Meeko even ignores the trainer and tries to run towards the other pups to play more. last week she even put him in with the bigger dogs because he had soo much energy. good luck! |
:) don't worry too much - that's the reason why we all have to go to these classes anyways! Einstein started his first puppy classes at Petsmart last Monday and he's going to another one Sunday. He was SO squirmy and could not sit still, and he whimpered a lot because we couldn't play. There's a maltipoo in my class and she was a yelper! But it didn't really bother anyone since we all knew we had problems :P I say go for it! |
