What age can i begin to train? At what age can i start to teach my pup basic commands like sit, stay, and come. ive had her for just two weeks. im not sure she knows her name as of yet :-/ |
We started Cooper on come and sit right away (around 13 weeks). By the time he started puppy class he already had those two commands down. In fact the instructor told me he is an "excellent sitter." :D |
I would start now. Just remember a puppies attention span is not very long and you want to make training a fun thing for them. Try very short sessions initially, say under five minutes, several times a day. |
I have heard that you should give them a week to settle in and bond with you by giving them lots of love and kisses and then you can start training them in the second week. At that age, their attention span will only lasts for a few minutes only anyways so the trick is to do it a few times a day. |
I start sit and down the day i got him. (3 months) I didn't expect much from him but kept going and eventually a few weeks later he got them down. He still has a short attention span but at least ne knows a bunch of commands at 4 months. Sometimes he just won't listen, but he does know them. |
