How long did it take? Just wondering how long did it take for you to completely potty train your yorkies? My little boy is only 7 weeks old so I'm not sure how much he actually understands yet. Whenever he's not with me he is in the laundry room with his crate and potty pads, and he does pee and poop on the potty pads so I guess that is a good start. He has had two accidents in the living room when I wasn't watching him closely enough and I scooped him up right away and put him on his potty pad. Is he too young to figure out that he has to go in the laundry room to go potty? He just gets scared when I take him outside... |
No I don't think he would understand at 7wks old. He's still a very tiny baby! Why is he not with his mother? He's too young to be away from her. |
He is still very young and has very little control of us bladder right now. Give him time! When I got Autumn (she was over 5 months) it took exactly 2 weeks to the day to even get her to pee or poop outside. She was using wee wee pads (and I am not a big fan of those JMO) then after that, it took maybe another 2-3 weeks. She had a few accidents in her crate from time to time but that was the only problem we had w/her. Blaze we got fairly young (8weeks- the breeder had an emergency so I took him as a huge favor for her!) he amazed me from day one. I brought him home and he went right outside w/Autumn and peed then pooped! I was shocked and thrilled all at the same time. Don't get me wrong, he would go out do his business come in and two minutes later pee on the floor. But thats the course of having a puppy. Yorkie or Great Dane......doesn't matter. Bottom line, you must stay consistent. Keep taking your puppy outside, even if it means every 20 minutes. It might be hard at first but it will certainly pay off in the end. Good luck! |
Well...My Pixie is 8 months old and has been clean with no accidents around the house for a couple of weeks...she likes to go outside on the grass to do her toilets...she's not too happy with going inside on a pad, I was hoping she would get used to that too, especially if the weather outside is not good but she knows what she wants...and outside it is...which is good of course!:D |
We have had ben now for two months and he is about 5.5 months. he has been full potty trained for about 2 weeks now. it was really frustrating in the beginning but soon they will catch on that they need to go outside. I live in so. California and we had a lot of rain the last month he still did not mind too much. I used pee pads so he did not go in the rain. I remember at first he did not like going on the wet grass at night but he doesn't care now. He is even potty trained at my in-laws too. he goes to the sliding glass door and we know he has to go. he will even bark if he needs to go bad enough. just stay consistent is my only advice I stay at home in the day and my wife is here at night so we did the same thing we took him outside and told him go "potty" and when he had an accident we took him to it and told him very sternly "no" and go "outside" he picked it up pretty quick and like i said they catch on and know that they have to go outside. just remember it is your job to show them this. have fun...... |
We got Bella at 12 weeks and she picked up on the potty training within days but she wasn't completely potty trained as far as not having to watch her all of the time until about 5 months. Now she goes to the sliding glass door and paws at it when she has to go. It takes a lot of patience, lots of praise and consistency, consistency, consistency and you'll get there:) Good luck! |
Thanks everyone :) My hope is to have him trained to go outside most of the time but have a doggy litter box for when I'm at work or it's really rainy or something. I have a Purina dog litter box and in a few weeks I'm going to try and put the potty pads in there, then I'll put the actual litter in it later if he gets used to it okay. Hopefully in a couple weeks he will like going outside a lot better though. |
Both of my guys were trained by 5months. I use washable pads. |
