An Important tip for Toilet Training For those of you will get or have new puppies and trying to house train them. here is a little tip that I have found useful and most helpful to me to prevent unwarranted accidents. Get a notebook and chart their poo and pee episodes. Believe me, it helps. I start to chart from the first bowel and urine movement they have from 6am, then feed then watch and note this again when they go. Then there is usually a pause between the urinating. So by charting it gives me a good idea that it may be 3 to 5 hours before the next call. It has been really helping me to keep the new puppy Bijou from having accidents. Try this, it really will works, nobody can remember each episode, so the chart really works. |
Good tip. I think it gets to the crux of housetraining. Consistency/consistency/consistency and avoid rather than correct those accidents at all costs. Good luck on your continued training! |
for me its just watch them like a hawk if you cant they should be crated or in a pen thats all i did & i have 3 100% trained dogs |
I also read somewhere... That if you put a bell on your door hanging from string that if you get your puppy to touch the bell everytime before she/he gets taken out, this will help alert you the signal that your puppy needs to go. Apparently it's a great method, I haven't tried it yet, but the owner of this strategy said it helped her babies in less that a month, and that they caught onto the bell within a couple of days. Who knows, I'm new to hearing this idea. I might try it. =) |

Yes hon, but not everybody can watch each dog like a hawk 24 7, sometimes it is inevitable. I am glad you had the time to do this and it worked out well for you, congrats:thumbup: |

Sure that is great I have not tried it, will put one onthe leash and encourage them to go to hte leash and ring the bell but Bandit is fully and completely house trained, Bijour came to me later so I am still working on him. He is at least diong it outdoors now and getting tons of praise and kudos and loving for it:thumbup: ...I think in a month he may be trained if not at least by the end of summer:D but I still write it down becuase I cant always remember the spam between elimination and not |
I just dont let them roam under our beds in the house. that seems to be the number one peepoo place for them. |
I found using a small notebook charting times and types of bathrooming that everyone had to write in helped too. My son wrote on the front...."Lilly's Bowel Movements" :o) I couldn't seem to keep track of when she had gone out last. I finally got everyone to write down the time and what she did (1 +/or 2) when she went out. Lessened some of the stress of the whole situation. Lori |

and this is acceptable to you:eek: |

Great that you do this as well. I cant keep track at all. I am increasing Bijou#s time in the crate to help him learn to hold longer I hope this will help with the potty training issues. He has had a couple accidents with the poop but it was my stupid fault I should have crated him the minutes he came in without pooing. I know better now. back to the book and crate when I am not watching. |
haha nonono i was just saying that it helps not to let them go under you bed or anywhere they cant see you. once they get out of your sight they will be bad. charting is the best thing to know when they need to go but they can be tricky. |
Great info!! We are going to try that! |

Welcome to YT! |
I tried doing the bell thing, i read about it in a training book, but my Kramer n(4 mo.) was so afraid of the sound he started avoiding the door all together, so i had to stop doing that. We are just crating and taking out, no where near trained yet, but i'm going to try jotting down his pees and poops. Thanks for the helpfull hints. |
