A few questions for you all My Yorkie is turned 1 year on Jan 14th. Her name is Roxy. I'm still having some housetraining issues with her. I'm wondering if anyone can help. I take Roxy outside regularly to do her business. Almost every morning lst time out she pees and poops but inevitably once we get in the house she poops just a little bit more, like she's saved just a little bit for when we come in :confused: Other times she will pee okay outside but no matter how long we stay out she won't poop. Then once we get in the house within 10 minutes or so she'll poop on her pad or sometimes on the rug or floor. :( She also has pee accidents throughout the day where she pees on the floor. We keep one pee pad in the house in the main living area where we are most of the time. I need help knowing what to do to get her her to tell us that she needs to go so we can take her out at that time. We also would like to know how to get her to be successful out there every time! Someone mentioned a bell training on the doorknob but I'm not sure what they meant and how to do it? Anyone have any magic tricks? Please share. Hope all are having a great evening. -Kiz |

You can try target training first but you can probably just coerce her to ring the bell on her own. Maybe you can put peanut butter or something on the bell so she will sniff it or lick it. I don't know though, I've never done bell training. Just make sure she rings the bell every single time you go outside so that she associates ringing the bell with going outside. |

Bell Training I am in the process of trying to get Lilly to "ring the bell" to "go outside"! I make her ring it every time we go out, and have done this since the day we got her. She still won't ring it on her own, but I have not given up hope. She does go and sit by the door when she wants to go out. But, I am afraid I won't see her there and want desperately for her to ring the bell. I have tried a couple of time to have one of my kids make her ring the bell, and then I will come. Don't know..........I haven't given up yet! Lori |
I was reading some place I think the AKC website that on average it takes 13 times for a puppy to learn something into long term memory. The weather is what is making training so hard for my Heni & Arshas, -4F is too harsh. On the days they are outside, and pooping or peeing, we've taken to petting them and in the most baby voice possible say, "good little girls, oh what good little girls" every time they pee or poop. The only down side is they want to poop right near my feet now to be told they are good (laughs) while we are outside. They still have accidents but at 13/12 weeks I understand. =) Hugs, Mynu |
