Help!!! Night Time Yapper! My Bucky is 6 months old today!!! :bigbdaypa Over the last week our schedule has been really crazy!! The kids and I leave for work/school at 7 a.m. have not been getting home until 7-8 p.m. So poor little Bucky has been home all by him self all day. I let him out as soon as I get home and he runs around until bed time 9 or 10 and I try to play with him a little bit to make him sleepy. He sleeps with my hubby and I and is really a good boy (my hubby hates it when he burrows under the covers though). :angelhalo :aimeeyork LOL! Anyway, I have started sleeping with my hands under the covers because he has started chewing on my hands REALLY HARD! (Not mouthing) It hurts! So when I tell him "No Bite", (that is what the book that I have been reading says to do, but I don't think that he understands yet). My precious little boy starts YELLING AT ME!?!? YAP YAP YAPPITY YAP very loudly, when I am tring to get to sleep. So I tell him "No Bark!" Which he also doesn't understand!! He finally gives it up, but one night it took 1 1/2 hours to get to sleep. This is a habit that has just started over the last week, but I would like to get it stopped before it becomes a problem. PLEASE HELP!! |

Happy birthday Bucky!! It is so hard for us workers that have Yorkies. I have a Shi Tzu (a LOW energy dog that would sleep 23 hours a day if I didn't bother him with food and water) and a Yorkie (a HIGH energy dog that fears he will miss something if he shuts his eyes). I do feel jealous of other families that are able to stay home with their babies all day. If you kennel them through the day, they definitely need some good exercise when you get home. To me, it sounds like the hand biting is a bit of boundary stretching at 6 months (I would think that's close to beyond the mouthing stage). I've heard that yelling "No Bark" to some yappers only challenges them to yell louder than you. You might try a spray bottle for the barking (and the biting). We use the spray bottle for any bad-boy behavior. And our rule is if the dogs don't settle down to sleep within a few minutes, they sleep in the kennel. It doesn't take too many nights for them to figure out what night-night time is for. ;) Good Luck!! |

Here is a link:http://homeandkennel.petedge.com/Pro...CategoryId=381 It comes in both black & gold. I also bought the carrying case for when we travel to take with us. Best purchase I ever made for them. In the summer, since we cannot have a fence where we live I block off the porch so they can play outside. I use mine everyday. I open mine up long ways to block the two archways into our kitchen / laundry area (everything unsafe is up high in cupboards) when I go to work everyday. They know and will come running to say goodbye to me. All their stuff is in there so they are safe & happy. |
Xpen during the day would be great but i am always against sleeping with your yorkie. You weigh somewhere around 100 pounds and your hubby is probably 180-220 pounds and your yorkie is 4-8 pounds, one quick rollover and you're sending your yorkie to puppy heaven. Id suggest having your yorkie in the pen during the night with a peepad. as for daytime boredom, squeeky toys, chews and turn the radio on is really all you can do these days. hope everything works out |
walk walk walk Remember yorkies are high energy dogs, and if he spends the day doing nothing and bored, when you get back from work and ready to go to bed he still have a full tank of gas ready to be burn, maybe he just want to keep playing a little bit more, thats why he barks at you. Im pretty sure that a walk around the block will make him tired and sleepy:D . good luck |
