another pee pad question we r not using pee pads. i take him out later in the day, my daugther takes him out after school, and my wife due to her work schedule has to let him go in the restroom. its always a quick clean up, so the poo or pee doesn't sit long at all. i'm thinking it might not be a bad idea to train him on a pee pad just incase we r ever @ some1 elses house(family). so my question is what were the pee pads designed to do? as in r they possed to be left there 4 a while, or for imidiate pick up. what size pee pads do u all use? thanks in advance |
Most pee pads are in the 18-24 inch size range. I like the Simple Solution Jump Start, they really attract puppies to use them. I don't know what others do, but I leave a pad out for several days unless there is diarrhea that cannot be easily picked up. I pick up the poo as soon as I see it. I believe that the scent of urine on the pad attracts the dog to use the same place again and again. Once it starts to smell I toss it. I usually have 2 or 3 pads out at a time so it is not as gross as it sounds. Pee pad training is a good idea if you ever plan to take your dog on a road trip. If you sneak him into a motel, it will be hard to take him outside to potty.:D If you let him go on a bare floor, he will get the idea that he can go on any bare floor, and that could create problems. Using a pad teaches him to use a pad, no matter where that pad is. I can also tell you from personal experience, if your baby ever has leg surgery and needs help to go potty, a pee pad is certainly much easier than putting on cast covers so he can go pee outside. |
I use about one a day, sometimes two, sometimes three. We always immediately pick up and solid waste but we let Franklin pee 2-3 times before we clean it up. It's not really too bad. We just buy the regular sized kind. We started off with Simple Solutions Puppy Pads...those have a strong scent that attract dogs to pee there. After he went consistently on it, we just started buying the generic kind in bulk. |
thanks! i mite try that just to get him use to it when weathers bad. thanks again! |
I use washable pee pads. They are designed to be left out to be used more than once. How long you leave them before washing depends on the level of use. I have three yorkies using one pad and I usually change it out every day. I do pick up any poop as soon as I see it. Washable are nice because they are not as likely to be torn up by the dogs and they save a lot of money (besides being environmentally friendly). The ones I make vary in size, but are generally around 28 x 32 inches. Whether you use paper or washable, yes, I would recommend pads rather than having the dog go directly on the floor in your bathroom. |
I would say you can probably leave it for a day or two as long as you pick up the poos. |
some suggestions 2 Attachment(s) you can get the piddle pads from some members here on YT, or from http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc....cfm?c=3307+32 and you can also get the trays to hold the piddle pads on to make sure the floor does not get wet. (these cost less than $25.) It is not a good idea to train the dog that the floor is the place to go. A piddle pad is much easier to clean up after, and less confusing to the dog.. |
Charlie now thinks rugs in the bathroom, kitchen, and by the doors are pee pads? Any suggestions to keep him from doing his business on my rugs? |
