Desperate for advice I just got a yorkie about two months ago. He's 11 mos. old and the previous owners didn't potty train him. I got him onto a schedule where I feed him at certain times and take him out about every two hours. It has had a very negative effect. I took him out at 11:30 last night and he went # 1 & 2 outside so I thought that he would be ok for the night because before the schedule he would go to bed at 10:30 and be fine until 7 the next morning, But when I awoke this morning at 5:30 he had messed his kennel. He has already messed his kennel 4 times! and it has only been 4 days since I put him on the schedule. What do I do? Any detailed advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
Have you tried pee pads? They work well for us. We never used a kennel. If you put the pee pad near the door, when he goes to it, you can let him out. YOu can buy a spray to spray on the pad that is suppose to attract them to it also. How long do you keep him in a kennel? That may be part of the problem, if he is in there for a long period of time. Good Luck with your training..... it does take time with a Yorkie. They can be little "buggers" to train. Anyone else??? Can we help this gal out??....... We know that it can be frustrating!!! |
Maybe his kennel is too large. Make it smaller so that he doesn't have a whole lot of room and will hopefully choose to hold it. This is providing that his stools are normal and he isn't sick - in which case he would have a good excuse. I feel for you...... but take a deep breath and remember patience is a virtue when housebreaking.... |
Welcome to yt. Good luck with your training. I never used a crate...just trained to go outside. One thing I can suggest...train yourself to learn his "going" signs. When you see him acting like he wants to do something take him outside and praise, praise, praise. |
