One more belly band question.... If your baby uses one, how long do you keep him in it? Although Jackson is almost 3, he is still not potty trained completely. We're tired of cleaning up pee pee, so we decided to try using these.. Now are YOU using them at training aids, or not? I don't know if these are meant for long term use. I would still like for him to be potty trained but for now, we're sticking with these cause we just got the carpets cleaned. |
My Joey wears his all the time except when he is outside or in his crate (when we're gone.) He will hike on anything or anybody...lol |
Our boys have started wearing them all the time they are out. When I pull one of them out of his crate, I allow him to go outside and go potty and then once he comes back inside I put his belly band on him until he is put back up in his crate. If they don't have their belly bands on they will mark continuously, no matter what we do to try and stop it. They are both potty trained to go outside so we use the bands as a way to help with marking. On pretty days, we allow the boys to play outside for a while and then once back inside I put their belly bands on...anytime they are in the house they have one on. When I take it off of them I make sure to wipe them down and brush them back out and change the pad if necessary. |
I put a belly band on Conner when he was 8 months old. He hated it, and would not come out of the crate while it was on!! That was how he was potty trained. When he made a mistake, we put the belly band on him until the next time it was time for him to go potty. If he went, we would not put the belly band on him. He was potty trained in a snap and has not gone in the house for over a year (he is going to be 2 in March). |
Belly Bands Bogey only wears one when we are going to be gone for longer than a couple of hours. When we are at home he does not pee in the house & doesn't wear one , but when aren't there I don't give him the chance to mark. |
What??? You mean they come off???:p Seriously, Bernie's situation is a little different, but he wears them all of the time when in the house. Never have seemed to bother him a bit.:) |
I use the dry weave pads so the wetness is not up against their skin, the longest I've left mine on without changing the pad is about 3 hours. My boys are both markers, but my shih tzu is worse! I love them, they are a Godsend. |
I have long given up training my Tiger . . .he wears the BB the minute I walk through the door until the following morning before we leave :) He is so used to it he pees without hesitation . . I just check it periodically and replace it as needed. |
For the male dogs that are wearing the belly bands (in this thread): have any of them been neutered? Does the "marking" slow down once they are neutered? |

This is the first I've heard about belly bands though. Could someone direct me to a link please as I may purchase one as a just in case for when Scruff is being babysat by my mum in March. |
lynn you can get them at petsmart. They make them for male or female, but I don't suggest the pads they have cause they are nothing more than a thin ultra light mini pad that won't absorb anything. I put toddler diapers in the band. But some folks use poise pads or maxi pads..I tried that but they didn't work as well for shelby. And the off brand diapers (walmart or kroger brand) are so much cheaper than the pads. And more absorbent since they are meant for babies that have no control at all. Then I used baby wipes to wipes off his belly when I took it off.. |
thanks for that mrshelbysmom. I've done a little look around and I think i will try and make one myself and then I'll use diapers as you suggested. |
mine wears them when hes in the house alone you can get them from puppywraps.com i believe |
