chewing the sofa Our 12 month old rescued YT occasionally chews the sofa we have in the kitchen while we are out. It's an old sofa so I'm not tooo upset but I still don't want him doing it. I walk him 5/6 miles a day so he should be getting enough excersise, he has 2 or 3 chew toys of his own, he's rarely in the house on his own but if I'm out for longer than a couple of hours he will sometimes chew the corners of the sofa. Should I be giving him more chew toys? Should I disipline him when I get home(or would he even remember what he'd done?) Should I get that spray I've seen that's supposed to stop them chewing if you spray it on the furniture? |
I use the bitter Apple spray and it works...but you have to spray it every day. It wears off. What do you mean he's rarely in the house by himself? Do you leave him out side? |
No I mean he's rarely at home without anyone else being in the house with him. I work from home so I'm here all day. I'll have a search for the spray you mentioned. Thanks:) |
I tried Bitter Apple Spray but it didn't work on out guys. What works for us is Habanero pepper sauce. I use a cotton ball and rub the surface with the stuff -- my kids take one sniff and stay away. :D I keep one bottle on hand just for that purpose. If your couch is fabric I would be careful about rubbing the Habanero sauce on it 'cause the stuff is a putrid color of green. |
I'd use the bitter apple spray, because you may get a couch you don't want eaten, and he'll think it's ok. |
Bitter Apple worked for my Yorkie, but my pommie loved it. He's a chewer and a shredder:( but a great cuddler.:D Had to switch to hot sauce. Did the job. Good luck :) Joanne :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :dog: |
Chewing on furniture One of our little ones, chewed a hole on the corner of my husband's brand new black leather easy boy chair. (I don't know who the culprit was, as I didn't catch them in the act.) Needless to say, I wasn't very happy. I didn't do anything , they are both puppies, but put black tape over the hole, and spray it. They haven't touched it since. Janice |
