Anti-Social alright... well potty training is 99.9% completed at 6 months old.. yay! now for another challenge, beagan is very anti-social with people. there are people coming in and out of the house all of the time and he barks and tries to bite toes but chickens out and hides until they leave. i set him in between two girls the other night and he shivered like it was the end of the world and i think he sprayed his little "booty" juices where he was sitting. WHAT CAN I DO? |
A great way to help the Shyness is to get them out and about. Take to the pet park or Petsmart and when you meet another and want them to great. have the person give them a treat. It helps a very shy pup overcome the stranger shyness. |
I've noticed in general Yorkies are extremely protective of there owners and can be a bit snappish at times. My Chloe is not very nice to people at first because shes always in protection mode. Best thing to do to get rid of that or just the overall shyness is the dog park. I took Chloe there a few times and what a difference. At first all she wanted to do was nip my heels and follow me around, now shes bullying all the big dogs :D |
its winter here so all of the pup parks are closed and our local petsmart/petco/petland don't have get togethers.... i hate to bring him in pet stores...most of the pups in there do not have their shots. im considering puppy classes through my vet, but have class when they take place. at home training is very expensive but i may just have to do that. at a loss! |
Play dates are great too. For Chloe she sees her brother and sister (my g/f's other dogs) once a week and they usually put her in her place. Dogs being pack animals need to know there place and as the owner your dog will look at you differently than others. Its always good to introduce other people and dogs into there life to help them know there roles. If you can't get them around other dogs, then def. get people involved. In a dogs eye we are dogs as well. |
well i think the root of the problem is our other dogs. i have him, and my mother in law has three schnoodles. the oldest schnoodle is very aggressive (she's in a lot of pain) and puts him in his place everyday... the second oldest schnoodle isn't so mean but does tell him to back off when necessary. the youngest schoodle is my yorkie's best friend all they do is play..she also does put him in his place. he is also the only male. they all have play dates with other dogs when we go up to the lake. i think he is learning how to be unwelcoming from the other schnoodles..they bark and bark when people come into the house and they hate kids. my mother in law really doesn't practice good manners or habbits with her dogs as i try with beagan. i try to remove him from that as often as possible. it's hard to explain, you just have to be here and watch him play monkey see, monkey do. he bit the vet last month when she was clipping his nails. he hates when other people other than myself or my husband have control. i think at this point, puppy classes are our last hope. $300 later... |

i would suggest to keep having people come over. Let the puppy come to the people. Have people sit on the floor and talk softly to him/her. Good luck to ya!! |
