Barking at doorknobs I've been owned by Sweetpea for 3 years now, and she's the light of my life! However, I think she is mentally unbalanced...whenever anyone tries to leave the house, she goes berserk. Picking up keys, touching a doorknob, even when I hug my husband good-bye sets her off. It is a ferocious bark. I realize that she doesn't want anyone to leave, but how do I make her understand that the barking is unacceptable? We've tried ignoring her and going about our business, squirt guns, and the usual crating techniques. Has anyone cured their dog of this problematic barking? It's especially embarrassing when we have guests...they have to fight their way out the door! |
I have a friend that has a male that does the same thing. I had a poodle bite me on the butt one time, so when moe does this it bothers me. I would get a leash and keep it on the dog so you can get it and make a correction. I would not let my dog continue to do this. :) |
Can't say I have that problem, because where I go--you will also see Maggie. |
Find the cure for separation anxiety and you'll solve the problem... |
is there anyway you could sort of psych her out by picking up the keys and just carrying them abound the house for a while and then putting them down again (but all teh time staying in the house)...... she associates these acts with being alone, and if you dont leave everytime you pick up your keys it might keep her guessing, you could also try treats to give her when she is quite (ONLY when she is quite........ if you give her the treat while she is barking she will think you are rewarding her BAD behavior) |
