problems with barking Hi guys, I know this is early to be asking, but is there anything I can do for my 8 week and a few days old pup to stop barking when in her kennel. We have her kennel set up during the day with her pee pad (which she is using 99% of the time), small bed, food, water, and toys for when i'm at work from 8 til 5. she barks uncontrollably when i'm trying to get ready in the morning (i put her in a pen with a pee pad, food, water toys and a bed) and before i leave. also most nights she doesn't want to be put in her kennel (made smaller so she can't move around much with just a bed with heating pad) to sleep and ends up waking us up 3 or 4 times a week. we've had her since saturday and she's getting a little less needy, but it's still pretty bad, any advice to calm the barking? she doens't seem to mess with her toys in the morning too much either (we try to focus on eating since she is soo small (2 lbs). any advice can help. |
barking I have an amazing solution and infact I found it here on Yorkie Talk. I have a Yorkie and my daughter has 2 Minpins (I live with my daughter). Believe me this works. Take a small metal can and put just a few pennies in it. When your Yorkie barks pick it up and just shake it a little bit. The noise will stop the barking. Now all we have to do when they bark is pick the can up. Try it. It really works.Good luck. |
thanks for the advice, but will it work in the middle of the night? |
Ditto to the advice on the coffe can. It works miracles and usually only one shake is needed! Lots of good luck with the little pup! |
At night.... If she is crated...then take a light weight blanket and cover the entire crate.....I read somewhere that puppies think something is going to come and get them in the big dark room......I have tried it....and it works like a breeze... Used it on two puppies....and they both went right to sleep and when I heard them wimper in the morning, I opened the crate to let them out to potty.... It is kinda a miracle too.....as NONE of my family is tolerant to noise at night...LOL |
Ditto on these remarks! I use a light blanket or a towel. Works well since puppyhood! |
we did try the blanket over the kennel during the day the day after we got her cause we wanted her to sleep while we were gone. have to try it again. I moved her kennel into my bedroom last night so she can see me at night, slept pretty well... some wimpers at the beginning, she did have an accident (#2). it seems to take her a long time to go potty after she eats (up to an hour). i'm trying to have her in a pen during the day, she'll have more room and seems to like that better than being in the kennel. we're just trying the kennel at night now. with the barking in the morning while i'm getting ready, she's doing better, i just say her name or say no and she quits complaining. I'm going to start trying the can once my bf leaves (he's going on a 7 month internship 5 hours away) as it might be easier to keep her on schedule. |
The only word I would suggest here that I was told by the obedience instructor is never to use the pup's name with a correction. She suggested using Quiet rather than No also. Good luck with your training. |
thanks, that has kinda been put on hold since Kylie is sick. thanks tho all. |
