My yorkie is a nipper and hates his crate! "Lil Bit-Elixir-Scruffy-Sparky" (we haven't settled on a name yet) has only been in our home a little under two weeks. For the most part he does his business on a pad but every once in a while will let it flow in another part of the the house. We're trying not to let his biting subtract from all his great qualities but we can't relax anywhere without him nipping at toes, fingers and even our hair! When we put him in the crate in whatever room we are in he cries (which of course breaks my heart). But for his own safety we have started crating him whenever we are cooking... he kept getting underfoot. I was just at the end of my leash when I found this forum. You all have encouraged me to hang in there!! It appears that many of the things I'm dealing with have already been done.

They outgrow the chewing stage. Just be patient thats all part of being a puppy

Two months old on the eighth. He never sits still long enough for me to take pictures and when I do they're usually blurry:)

The problem is that you got him a little young, before his mother had the chance to teach him proper dog etiquette, so now you will have to teach him.

pushing him away or trying to distract him, only reinforces the behavior, because it is attention. the best thing to do is just as his mother would do, snap at him, using your hand as the mothers mouth, and nip him in the shoulder, then move away from him. That will also establish your position as the pack leader, which is estremely important.

the snapping will startle him and make him stop, the moving away will teach him that if he doesn't play nice, you won't play with him at all.

Chewing is a normal part of puppy behavior, but chewing on people is NEVER allowed. His pack mates would not allow it and since you are his new pack, neither should you.

Make sure he has plenty of toys and rawhide to chew while he's teething.

My puppy Pikko is 3.5 months old and does the EXACT same thing your puppy does. He cries, even when we go to another room in the house! What a crybaby. And my hair has split ends from him chewing on it too! But he's such a riot. I just love him. I really do home he outgrows the chewing. Your baby too!

Well I am so glad that you found us too! I know you will get so much good advice here 'cause we have very knowledgable people here....just not me:D but I'm friendly!!! Sounds to me like you are just in the puppy stage. He WILL outgrow it and things will get better. I know a lot of people crate their dogs but I never did 'cause I couldn't stand to hear him cry. I am such a softy. Good luck and welcome.
