stressed out - possessive dog I'm not sure where to put this.. I'm having trouble with one of my dogs. She has gotten extremely possessive of me lately and is not getting on well the other dogs. She will growl at the other dogs when they come to me to be pet, she growls and moves away if they happen to touch her when she's resting on the couch. Her growling is just in her throat - she doesn't bare her teeth or anything. A couple of the other dogs seem to pick on her - ie - being mean and wrestling her to the ground and holding her there. She has started peeing in the house which I haven't seen her do before. So, it seems like she is getting stressed out and I'm not sure what to do. I'm reading a couple of books to see if I can find something, too. She is a really sweet dog - loving and cuddly and loves to go anywhere with me, anytime.:) She loves other people, just jumps into their laps and lays down for a cuddle. I just want to figure out how to make this situation better so she won't be stressing so much. Any ideas anyone?????? |
My Jewels will growl at Chachi if she is up by my lap and he trys to jump up. I dont let Chachi get in my lap when she is. Then I will put her down after she has had her time and go get Chachi. We havent found any solutions for when she does it when we are in our bed. I hate to hear your dog is getting picked on by the other dogs. I am sure thats whats stressing her out |

Interesting... I watched on Dog Whisperer similar situation and Maxi's cousin Maggie is pretty possessive too. If your dogs act like that you have to take your dog and put her/him on the back for a little while until they get relaxed and hold them gently letting him/her know that you are the boss and this behavior is unacceptable.Usually when dogs are submissive to others they lay down on their back so you just have to recreate this. Maggie was like that with Maxi until I got in between and let Maggie know she is not the leader,I am, I stepped towards her letting her know that is my territory and respect it. She got the idea pretty fast she is a good doggy. After I repeated a couple of time when she would grawl at Maxi, she was ok. She was playing with him and even letting him win in their wrestling game :) |
If the other dogs are being mean maybe she feels like the only way to get away from them and be "safe" is with you. And when they come to you to be pet she feels like she has to protect herself and her space(and as result that includes you too). |
