what kind of aggression would this be
 
My yorkie is 1/2 yrs old

she is fine with my parents dogs when they go for walks or other family dogs. In the house she plays fine with them or they ignore each other after awhile. When i hold her she gets aggressive to these same dogs or if put my hands on the other dog when they are togethor. If the leash is tight outside she has been none to get aggressive also. For some more info i can put my hand in her food bowl along with other family members and take food out of her bowl if we want. She only guards things she knows she shouldnt be playing with, and gets nasty.


What is the best way to train her to stop this behavior.

Good question I have tried many things but it still is not working! Sorry I cannot help you, but I am sure somebody here will help us.

Do you think she's just being protective of you when she gets aggressive when you are holding her and you touch the other dogs? I don't really have any answers, but do you ever watch the Dog Whisperer? He deals with the exact types of issues you described and I have seen him do amazing things on that show! It comes on the National Geographic channel.

I think it sounds like she is jealous. I have the same problem with my Chais and I am going to ask the Dog Whisperer that question tomorrow if I get the chance. I am also buying his DVD and getting it autographed so I will try to get an answer and report b

I posted a similar problem with Nikki. That's funny, because I keep threatening her that I am going to call the dog whisperer!!! Is the DVD a teaching program? Let me know and if so, how I can get one. Thanks.

I have a jealous one in my family too. You just have to spread yourself thin to avoid it.

I sorta think it's a jealousy issue. Your situation sounds somewhat like what I deal with Schatzie about.

If I hold Annabelle Schatzie absolutely freaks out or if I bath Annabelle. Once Annabelle is from my arms and 4 paws back on the ground Schatzie pounces her. Of course Annabelle ignores Schatzie's bad behavior which amazes me. :eek: If I was Annabelle and Schatzie treated me like she does Id nip her in the butt just to say "back off you little brat"... :aimeeyork

I can't remember why, but our trainer told us never to lift and hold our dogs when there are other dogs present. Dogs don't like being held in the air - it is humiliating in some way.

I have heard that.

I also heard that walking them not carrying them gives them more selfconfidence.

Wonder where this info came from..

There is a wealth of very good information about aggression in dogs on the internet, just type "aggression in dogs in the search line. The more you learn about aggression, the types, causes, etc, the better able you will be to determine what exactly is causing aggrression with your baby.

My Chattie has what is classified as "redirected aggression". She is extremely protective of me and when I am sitting at my computer, if ANYONE speaks to me she will attack Chizzie and a fight will occur. What Chattie would REALLY like to do is attack the human who dared to speak to me, but since she doesn't dare, the next best thing is to attack Chizzie.

Knowing this, we are working on soliving the problem. Everyone in my house has been instructed to call out and "warn" me if they are coming close to the computer so I can be prepared to thwart an "incident". We are having great success.

I thought that holding a dog around other dogs was not good because it made them "above" the other dog, which causes the aggresion. In a typical doggie situation the more dominant dog is taller and looks down on the other dogs. Just a thought. :dog:

Needless to say there was line at the Dog Whiperer's booth so we were able to buy the DVD, have it autographed and get a photo but not ask the question about jealousy/aggression. I will watch the DVD and see if it is addressed there.

Megans: I think you can orderthe video from his website www.cesarmillaninc.com.

As for lifting the dog, I know that I take no chances with my little guys and when a strange dog approaches I always lift my yorkies up to get them to safety. At the dog show I had them on the ground as much as I could but there were sooooo many dogs and I just didn't feel safe leaving them down there. I took the stroller the second day when I had all four and it was a life saver.

As for Peppy, he is doing GREAT!!! He is so very tiny and so very perfect. Off he goes to the vet tomorrow to get established withand kisses from Dr. Amy. According to my Pampered Chef scale, he is weighing in at a whopping 2 1bs. 13 ounces.

you know what i think your right!i notice that when i'm holding coco he growls and thinks he's so tuff but once i put him down he's nice and very playful.interesting!
