Does the Type of Crate Matter? We will be bringing our new puppy home next month and I am curious as to if it matters what kind of crate I potty train her with. While at walmart this evening I bought this crate with intentions of using it for traveling, but then I thought it would be fine for potty training as well. It is a crate designed for dogs 15 pounds and under. Is there anything wrong with this crate besides the obvious fact that the puppy might be able to chew at the mesh siding? http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=3391780 Is it necessary I also buy the metal caged type crate as well for training, or will the mesh one work just fine? Thanks! :D |
I had first originally bought a small crate for my Rocco, the kind approved for airline travel and he absolutely hated it. He did nothing but cry, whine and pull on the door with his teeth. I was afraid he'd pull his teeth out. So then I exchanged for the metal crate from iCrate at Petsmart and he loves it so much better. I think cause he can see us better as opposed to the other one he couldnt see us except through the front. But with the metal crate he can see us from all angles. Plus I like it, seems much more sturdy. Money well spent. I don't know if the mesh would be good for a puppy, they might chew on it. I know Rocco chews on anything! |
Mines use the plastic travel crates with a dog bed inside instead of the black metal crates.I started them from the start and do not have any issues with them. The crates are kept in my living room and I thought it gave a much more warm secure feeling being den like.I also travel with the gang and they are much more comfortable being in their own crates they are so familiar with. |
So, when I first got Kiwi, I had her in this type of mesh/cloth crate. Well, one day I came home from class and she had chewed a big enough hole in it to squeeze out!  Needless to say, I went out that day and bought a plastic crate and that is what she uses now. It is a lot easier to clean as well.:) |
Well, looks like I have an answer to my question! Thanks :) |
