Shyness... Hi there, not sure if this is health or not...but it was a tough choice between health or training...so I chose training as...it is what she is doing. Schmoo is a very healthy small 5 month old yorkie, but shy shy shy. She will come to us if we are on the couch with our feet up or laying on the bed, otherwise she would rather hide under the couch. She is not aggressive shy, just shy shy. Her ears go back, you can bribe her with food, with anything and she still keeps her distance...yet when you take her to the vet or out...she approaches people (hesitantly) and with other dogs, she is like a 100lb dog in a small 2.5 lb. body, nothing frightens her at all. I know that she is young, but...we love her and want her to be happy and trusting of us...any recommendations? thanks Nadinesky :) |
Bumping this up so you will hopefully get some replies. Just wanted to say welcome to YT and your baby is adorable :) |
Thanks for bumping me up, been looking for answers and hopefully I will find them here with these wonderful yorkie lovers. Thanks again, and yes I think Schmoo is adorable...and her name suits her to a T. Cheers Nadine :animal-pa |
How is she when you bath her or brush her, feed her and play with her? I found my baby loves brushing and we formed a bond between each other. In my opinion its any things you do with your pup just a two of you makes them bond with you and begin trusting you. Try to find what your pup loves the most and try to do it with him. Maybe training her commands will help it too... |
How old was your baby when you got her? It is just possible she was not socialize properly as a little puppy. I got my first Yorkie, Dixie, when she was 7 months old. She had never been around anyone else except her previous owners. She was terrified of strangers and us when we first got her. It took her a while to adjust but she bonded to us but she is still very scared of strangers. She is now 11 years old and my little lap baby. Some puppies are just shy. You need to get down on her level, talk sweet to her, let her know how special she is and hopefully she with outgrow this stage....some never do. |
