aggression towards one of the pack PLEASE HELP QUICK! I have 3 seven year old yorkies, 2 recently neutered males and a very small female. One of the males sired a female (5 years old) who has had two litters, two females 2 years old and one male and one female, 7 months old. They have lived happily for several years, eat together, sleep together and bark and play together. Mom and her four kids tend to stick together and the other three are independent. For the past month or more the 5 year old mom has started biting her 7 year old small (half her size) aunt. I have left them all together inside the house and as soon as they hear the door open they start barking and the 5 year old is found on top of the small one who is on her back and biting her! I have been leaving them separately, but today I let them out together like I always do but when I went to the back I guess two or three were biting the little one and made real nasty cuts on all her little legs and drew some blood!!! What is happening? Please help me! Is this jealousy? Why all of a sudden? I hug them all and kiss them and mom and her four sleep with me. The little one sleeps with my mom and is always on the sofa with her. Suggestions? What do I do? PLEASE PLEASE HELP! |
I just wanted to say Welcome to YT!!! You have come to a great place. there is tons of great information and wonderful people here! |
I had the same thing happen I have 5 yorkies and two non-yorkies. One female (Mandy) started picking on the other female (Krissy) and then the whole pack started picking on Krissy:mad: I tried everything but what worked finally was when they are together and they would gang up on Krissy as the head of the pack I actually get on Krissy side and push and shove the others while growling! It took awhile but she is no longer treated as the omega in the pack. I'm alpha and the rest know there is no room for a second place. I think they know she is under my protection and leave her alone now. It was really bad at one point I though I would have to get rid of her. Thankfully it all worked out but took time and patience to train them not to single her out and as a pack jump her. I still don't leave them all alone for long periods of time just to be safe. |

Knowing dogs I wouldn't take a chance if I was gone leaving them all together. With the seven I put the 4 of the Yorkies together and the three mellow dogs together, Krissy actually is put in with my non-yorkies that are both 9 years old. The funny thing is Krissy is 9 lbs and the one that picked on her is only 5 lbs. Krissy is just to sweet sometimes. I'm actually very protective of her as she is really submissive. There hasn't been a problem for about four months now so hopefully with close supervision the 'pack' will be ok now. |
