behavior problems Hello everyone I'm new to the forum and seeking information for my Yorkie. This is not the first yorkie I've had. Murphy is a 3 1/2 years old male with SEVERE seperation anxiouty. No matter if it is for 3 minutes or 3 hours he absolutely flips out when I leave him. What should I do. |
First, welcome to YT! :) Secondly, ...poor baby! I feel very lucky that we haven't had to deal with that issue, but I'm sure others here have. |
Welcome MrT. My little boy is Murfee and he's 4 years old. I too have not had that problem but he sure doesn't like it when I leave and sometimes pouts when I get home. Good Luck. I am sure someone on here will have good advice for you. |
Welcome to yt:) My molly is the same way, hubby says she cries when ever iam gone untill i come home, and she has 4 other friends to play with, sorry cant help you, I just try and go away more often and hopefully she will out grow it like my others have:) good luck to you. |
Welcome to YT. We had a s**tzu who had great problems with separation anxiety. At the time we didn't know what it was. This was early 1990's. She tore up or ate up everything in sight while we were gone. She went through the invisible fence chewed up the door trying to get out, went through the screen in windows, etc. She injured herself constantly. We finally took her to the local pet adoption place. I think there's some sort of tranquilizer they can put them on now that helps greatly. We worked with Snuggles for 2 years before giving up. Good luck. A vet would have more info. |

We had that problem with Snickers. He would get so upset that he would have diarrhea when he was left alone. We solved the problem by getting him a playmate. Since we got Baxter, Snickers is a changed boy. He's fine when he's left alone now because he has Baxter for company. |
Welcome to YT. I don't have problems with this issue, so I don't know if I can help you. But I do know that the Dog Whisperer/Cesar Milan deals a lot with this issue. Have you seen any of those shows or read his books? I can't really remember how he dealt with it, as I didn't need that at the time. Does anyone else remember? |
Behavior Problem Hello, this is my first posting. I am at my wits end because my 6 month old yorkie seems to think that he must pee or poop in his crate before he goes to sleep. This is after he has gone to the bathroom before I put him to bed. I have one suggestion that he has too much room in his crate, so I divided it and he still does this. Any suggestions from out ther? |
welcome to YT!! you've come to the right place for advice! there is so much knowledge to be found here. and lots of wonderful people to chat with |
Ceaser Milan says to make sure the dog gets PLENTY of excercise. I am guessing that the dog knows when you are about to leave also... one day, go through your normal routine and as you step out side... listen at the door and hear if he starts to wimper or stratch at the door. if he does, open the door and tell him no. he has to know that wimpering and scratching is something he's not allowed to do. also, when you come home, make sure you don't go to him directly. let him bark and bark. give him a couple mins to calm down, then let him out. Also make sure there are lots of toys for him to play with. something like a ball with treats inside should keep him busy. |

Have you tried to feed him earlier? give him like 5 hours before going to bed and make sure he poo's and pee's before you put him to bed. My schedule is typically: Breakfast: 8AM (usually I feed more food in teh morning) Lunch: 1PM Dinner: 6PM (feed him less here) I take away his water around 8PM Goes to bed at 11PM |
