Wont potty in my bedroom but will around the house Hello everyone, Ive been trying to crate train my little puppy Pacino (like Al Pacino) and so far hes not doing too bad. He has his accidents in the house here and there with pee and poo and when I catch him in the act I quickly pick him up and say "NO!" then carry him outside and say "go potty". If I dont catch him in the act of making his mistake inside the house I dont say anything to him. I try taking him outside as much as I can or when I notice him sniffing around like he is trying to find a spot inside the house. His breeder allowed him to go on the puppy pads and when I brought him home I wanted him to go outside ONLY. But due to our wonderful Chicago weather temperature has gotten so cold that I couldnt even stand outside myself for long, so he went on the pee pad. Now, all I try to do is let him go outside since the weather has gotten a bit better. And last night he woke me up from his crate which is located near my bed to take him outside. I took him out and he went pee. After he leaves his crate its very tough to get him to stay in there again so I let him stay out in my bedroom which is puppy proof. He will usually fall asleep ontop of my bed sheets that hang off the bed onto the floor. In the middle of the night he started whining and I wasnt sure why. So I took him outside to potty just incase and he went. The weird thing was is that he was out of his crate in my room free to poo or pee wherever he wanted and he didnt. He woke me up by whining to take him out. It sounds great to me because I guess he is learning to go outside. Heres my question, why wont he potty in my bedroom but he will around the rest of the house? How can I fix this? Thank you so much. And sorry about the long essay haha. |
i guess since his crate is also in your room and that is his bed, he's take your whole room to be his bed. This is good. Keep doing this for a while and then slowly give him access to the rest of the rooms in your house, one at a time. if you do this slowly he will probably adapt the whole house as his 'bed' and not go potty inside. giving them free access to the house too soon will just allow them to go potty where ever they want and sleep somewhere else. |
I used a X-pen in the house to contain the puppy. This way I did not have to place him in the crate so often in betweeen trips outside. Last year on December 29 when I brought my pup home I immediately began training him to go outside. Although it seems colder this year in New York, I bought Remi a coat, sweater, and raincoat. I needed extra warm clothing for myself too. I stuck to the routine I established, even in inclement weather, and I can say that it has paid off! |

He does sleep in the other rooms too thats why I was a bit confused why he would still go potty there too. Maybe I should start sleeping in each room of the house so that eventually he thinks the whole house is his bedroom haha. |
