a couple of training questions i have a couple questions about training my two chis were trained to go on potty pads but i want to train the new pup to go outside.should i just stick with the pads? will there be too much confusion? also my girls dont sleep in crates(i didnt crate train them...wish i did though) they only go in a crate when companies over. but would it be okay for me to crate train the new pup? i wont make the pup stay in the crate too much but would like to have them used to one |
Why not train them all at the same time? Your first to can learn just the same as the new one. You can crate train and potty train them all. It would be easyer that way. Just put the puppy pads by the door and make sure you take them all out often. Then after a while take the pad and put it outside. It takes time but it will work if you keep up with it. |
i think im going to do that...i dont like potty pads very much, i would be easier to just have them go outside.. any other tips for outside potty training? thank you so much |
All I can tell you is watch them and keep them in an area that you can get to them fast. Let them out often, make sure you dont free feed for a while. Take them out after eating till the go and then be ready with lots of love and treats. The older ones will most likely catch on first. Good luck!!! |

Do not let your pup be unsupervised so you can try to avoid accidents. Lots of praise, and lots of patience. Good luck... |
I definitely think you should train your new baby to go outside if that's what you want. I've never used the pads, all of my babies have been trained to go outside. I would recommend crate training, you'll get the fastest results because the repetitiveness really helps them to learn quickly. As far as your babies currently using the pads, there was another person on here who decided to transition from pads to outside and did what was recommended above, start with the pads next to the door and gradually move them outside to teach them the new rules and it seemed to work quite well. If you have questions on crate training you may want to do a search on this site and I think you'll find lots of info. Good luck:) |
