Would like your opinion on potty training I'd just like to see what everyone is doing as far as potty training. Bruno is 2 months old and we're planing on crate training him but of course want to get him used to going potty outside. I just wanted to see where you all started with yours! TIA Treena |
as far as crate training, we were having trouble with him CRYING and SCREAMING because he didnt like to be left alone, so.... someone suggested to feed him in teh crate so he associates it with "good things" and that has worked wonders, as far as the potty training,.... we are using pee pee pads and it iis still a little touch and go, BUT the idea is use lots of praise when they go in the right spot and when you catch them giong in the wrong spot, pick them up and correct where they should go, from what i have heard NO YELLING.... but if i say bad dog (in a normal voice) he knows what it means, and gets very guilty.... some people use treats for peeing in the right spot too, but i use both praise and treats |
I debated for a while about training him inside or outside too. My issue is that it's quite cold outside, so I didn't want him outside for too long. We ended up going with training him to go outside. We live in an apartment and built a box, put a pee pad in it, put it on our balcony, and have him go in there. He's getting the hang of it. He's only 4 months, but I've noticed amazing changes in the less than 2 months we've had him. About crate training him - try to put him in the crate as much as you can while you are there, so he doesn't associate being in there with negative things, like you leaving. We put Hercules in his crate during the day and at night. The treat idea is good too. Also, slowly increase the amount of time you leave him in the crate. Hercules whines for a few minutes when we first put him in the crate, but it always ends. I haven't had too much of a problem with this. Good luck!! :p Brandi & Hercules |
Higgins is trained to both a pee pad and the outside. At night we put a pad down for him in our little trailer so he can hop down and do his thing and we can sleep a little later. Then, during the day, he goes outside. He is about 99% good about it at one year old, and we put up with the few mistakes. He's sooooo cute...... |
