Frustrated Help! At what age do they seem to start giving you the hint that they need to go potty? Rudy is 3 months and when I take him to pee pad and sit/stand and tell him to go potty he does everything but go.. I take him away repeat and nothing then 1 minute later i catch him going somewhere else... this is happening about 50% of the time.. I tell him NO in a firm voice and take him to pee pad.. is there anything else I can do? When is does go he always gets praise and treats... bit confused any suggestions would be aprreciated.. |
Sounds like you're doing everything right. And 50 percent success isn't bad for three months. I've heard some people say they've had 100 percent success by 4 months. I was happy with 100 percent success by 9 months. A couple things to check: * Don't say "no" unless you catch him in the act. * When you take him to the pee pad, it should be a positive experience. i.e., don't scold, pick him up and drop him roughly on the pee pad. Keep your voice animated and happy. * If you see no improvement, you might try limiting his ability to wander when it's pee time. Use a baby gate in the kitchen and have the pee pad there. Good luck. Don't give up. You're close. |
With Chip we kinda "trapped" him on the pee pad. We put the pad right between the bathroom cabinet and the toilet. I put the toilet brush hold behind the toilet so he couldn't escape (he used to try that), and I would sit right in front until he went. I wouldn't move or let him go until he went on his pee pad. We had a schedule. He slept in his crate at night and first thing when I woke up, I picked him up, carried him to the pad, and waited until he went, gave him a treat and lots of praise. I went to work and first thing when I came home, I took him out of his crate and straight to the pee pad. He'd play and before he went to bed he went on his pee pad. When I saw him sniffing around too much I'd pick him up and put him on his pee pad. When your little one pees in the wrong spot, what do you notice her doing consistently before hand? Chip started sniffing around for the perfect spot, so I knew that was his time. Watch her and see what her signs are. |
