new yorkie.. Ok. so i bought my first dog and yes it is a yorkie. I got him last friday and he will be 2 months on friday. He is able to sleep in his crate pretty much all night. I leave the door open to his crate in the bathroom but place a baby gate in the doorway to keep him confined to the bathroom. He was doing great with house potty training up until today. Prior to today, he was about 75% getting it right. I had the house cleaned today and when we got home from work, he acted like he didn't know where he was. He peed and pooped all over the place. Was it b/c the smell of his previous pee was gone and he had to re-mark his territory? I thoroughly clean the area of pee everytime with some spot remove stuff from pet-smart. This is the only conclusion I can come to. The other problem is that I have a friend who owns a larger 6 yr old yorkie puppy-sit during the day while I'm at work. My concern is that he is getting attached to my friend and the dog and loosing interest with me. Instead of fun dog I come home to a sleepy, hungry dog that wants to pee and poop all over the place. Not sure if I should continue the puppy-sitting or not. Lastly, when is it optimal to start potty training outside. I've heard mixed things.. Wait till the parvo shots are completed or start immediately. Any thoughts.. Thanks Rajah's Daddy |
Hey a week ago I could have said the same....go figurer! Now we are worse than before?? shrug* |
....oh where are my manners....welcome!! to you both!! |
He was taken away from his mom too soon. He should not have gone to you until 12 weeks. The part of working on training should have been stared at the breeders and I am sure he is missing his mom and probably has taken an interest up with your friend older Yorkie because he is missing his mom and siblings. He is just a baby and doesn't have a clue yet exactly what is expected out of him. Be sure that he eats good or he can go hypoglycemic (where his sugar level drops) He will be more playful as he matures, just remember he is still very much a baby. I would not do any outdoor training until at least two weeks after he is completely vaccinated on his puppy vaccinations. Best of Luck Deana Prestigeous |
