5 Month Old Backsliding! My 5 Mo. old female, Abby was doing so well not chewing or getting into things with a little help from the clear deodorant but now she's decided to get into my tall baskets with fake plants and pull the moss out all over or chew on the basket itself. I have tried telling her NO! and giving her a toy and she'll sneak right back to it. I finally took hem in a room and closed the door! Any suggestion or similar problems out there? She's about to make me crazy and she was doing so well. |
She may be teething - do you have lots of stuff for her to chew? Mine love the Merrick's flossies and went through them like crazy when they were teething. |
Yes, she has every kind of chew toy you can imagine! I haven't tried those yet though. Where may I find them? Thank you for your help. I'm totally frustrated right now trying to prepare for the holidays and running to see if she's into something new. What a pill she's been! |

Thanks again. I found them on line and regitered with Merrik. I will check Pet Smart when I go back. I was just there yesterday too! Rats! LOL They look interesting though. She LOVES any new toy and goes crazy over them. She has so many I put some away for a while and exchange them evrey once in a awhile so she doesn't get bored with them, so I thought. We just have her, no other dogs so the bulk ordering may be too many. Thanks!! |
Deoderent is not good to use. i had to call poison control for Chewy when he got into deodernt. they told me deoderent was not good for the dog and it was a good thing I called.... He ate some of my daughters... I would find something else to use instead. |
There are so many chewie's to choose from, mine even like the white rawhides from walmart. when they get smaller I take them away from them. but where you do not want her put lemon rinds, they do not like the smell of lemon. even if a dog has a favorite place to mark, use the rinds and a dog will stay away from that area. pooh's mum |

I get Zoe bully sticks and she just loves them so it distracts her from everything else. There is a vendor on here who sells them but i can't remember her id right :( now but it really works with Zoe. |
Bully sticks may be close to the ones I ordered another member suggested. I'll try a search for them. Thank you for the suggestion. Every pup has their favorite, finding it it is the fun part! LOL :p |
Hi, Although your dog is probably teething, you will still be able to train her not to chew on these baskets. Get a small water pistol that can easily be concealed, and when she jumps up on your baskets, give her a quick squirt, which ought to shock her. The key to this is that she will be too scared of getting squirted to jump up on the baskets. Be sure that she can't see you squirting the water, as she needs to believe that it is the basket that is causing the squirting, and not you. |
Try bitter apple spray. |
He he Maxi never cared about any plants or wires since he was a little baby. All over sudden he started to pay attention to a little palm tree I have. One day he completely dug the plant out, the soil was all over. Imagine how upset I was? I told him no and bad boy. After a while he started again so I moved the plant in my bedroom because once we go to the bedroom we go right to sleep and he doesnt care about the plant anymore :) |
