My Yorkie mix attacks larger dogs as if she were a pitbull ... I'd love some advice and feedback on how to deal with my four-year-old female Yorkie's aggression towards larger dogs. She literally turns into an attacking pitbull when other dogs are around. She beats the pulp out of my mother's large pug, T-Bone, and is very, very jealous of him when he comes to my house. He's the most gentle soul and doesn't seem to notice that she is only 1/4 his size. He's petrified of her and runs for his life when he sees her. My little Yorkie was rescued from a Humane Society and absolutely loves cats. So much, in fact, that she was placed in a huge area with a dozen cats and she absolutely loved being with them. I don't understand why she hates her own species so much. I took her through a couple local pet shelters to get her accustomed to other dogs and she growled and barked at every dog, yet loved being around the cats. Could it be that she thinks she is a cat? |
Since she was a rescue, do you know her story? She might have been attacked when she was younger and thinks all dogs are threats. |
I don't knnow what to tell you, I always tried to have Pepper used to being around dogs different sizes, and up to recently, he LOVED all dogs, all of them. He used to go to a doggie daycare and doggie parks, all that socialization and what? He's 1.5 years and starts getting aggressive towards some dogs. I have to pick him up sometimes as he goes into an attack mode, and usually it is towards big dogs. He always loved bigger dogs and nothing bad ever happened when he was around dogs... He was always ready to run to them friendly and tail-wagging. Now, I don't know what that new behavior is about... |
I found some great advice and information about this from this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=102947 |
Just letting everyone know that one simple act has helped calm my Yorkie's "fury" towards my mother's pug. When she attacks him, I place her on her back and gently put my hands around her neck to demonstrate that I'm the dominant one. I did it three times and her attacks have stopped altogether. This is all thanks to the information I received from Yorkie talk! |
