Gentle Leader? Harley has been home for a week this coming Thursday. He's adjusted quite well, and I'm preparing myself to begin training with him. The first issue I want to handle is loose leash walking. Harley is quite the puller, at 16 lbs + he's got alot of power. I've never used a Gentle Leader but have heard it is good for training dogs with this issue and works better than a regular harness. Has anyone used this with good results? |
sorry, havent used one of those... but, just wanted to say good luck in your search  |
I didn't use it with Lucy but I used it with my two Shepherds with success. The only thing to remember is that if you don't also train them to walk correctly as soon as you take the leader off they will go back to the original behavior. Best of luck... |
I'm a big Premier fan. I even have some of their products on my website. Here's the scoop: There is the Gentle Leader headcollar and then the Easy Walk Harness. BOTH are great for pulling, but some dogs don't like the headcollar. The harness has virtually no adjustment period. The headcollar takes some adjustment on your part and your dogs part. It does come with a video though that explains everything. I prefer the headcollar in crowded situations for Loki because the muzzle wrap has a calming effect and he has fear issues. For normal walks, I prefer the harness. The harness actually helped Loki to learn to walk on a loose leash *without* his harness (on a collar) but I still prefer the harness. If you have any questions please let me know, I'm happy to help! |
I have used the easy walk with Gracie. It works like a charm. My only complaint is this. Because the D-ring is on the chest, the latch on the clasp of the lead can get tangled in the chest hair. I suggest putting a bit of Koban over the latch on the clasp before heading out. It is easily removed and reusable. |
