Regression? Is it normal for pups to regress in potty training after being good for 6 months? The rain scares my baby and it just wont stop long enough to potty. Im having no luck getting her to us the pee pads. |
If the rain is the only thing causing the regression, then it's totally normal. Do you have a covered patio or somewhere else covered for your dog to go? If it's general regression, I think the problem is often that we regress. We become accustomed to the dog's progress and stop keeping as close an eye on the. If this might be the case, try tightening up the schedule and house rules and see if that doesn't help. Good luck! |
rain Mine don't like the rain either...I have to put them on a leash and stand there while they pee...then they know they can come in ...so they hurry up. roxanne:) |

With the rain. I would find a spot around the house that had the "least" amount of rain blowing or coming down. We did not have a "covered" anything. I would stay out there with Millie until she would go. If she refused I would come back in and take her out again after about 10 mins, but I was watching her the whole time in the house. Some times, Millie would try to get back in the house, but I would stay at the door, blocking it and kept repeating "go potty" and eventually she got the hang of it. It really sometimes is a battle of wills, but you have to make sure you win every time. Snow was better. My husband would go out and shovel or sweep an area in the grass for her to potty in and she did not mind it like she did the rain. |
Yes sometimes they go backwards. You just have to start training from step one, and be persistent. |
I agree with Ladylavendar... you gotta lay down the law :) Be persistant. My Meka (8 mo) recently regressed a little. Her room is my washroom and its gated...but last month, because she had been doing so well, we thought we'd move her bed upstairs with the family and see how she'd do... Well, the first week she was GREAT! We let her have full run of the house during the day and she was going downstairs to her area to do her business with no problems... Then week no 3, it all went down hill. She started going in other places downstairs when her pad was only a few feet away :( Couldnt figure it out... So now we are pretty much starting over...... Good luck to you :) |
Once Zoey was trained, she didnt regress. I still give positive reinforcement tho. She has been 100% trained for months now. I dont do it every time , but at least once a day I give a food reward for doing it right. I always give verbal praise and tell her good dog. Zoey thrives on positive reinforcement. |
The thing that saved me in the snow was tire tracks! If it hadn't snowed too much after someone left with a car, I put her in the tracks and off we went. That has worked out fairly well, and spared me some shoveling! Lori |
