Can yorkies be litterbox trained? Can a yorkie be litterbox trained, and have any of you done it? Are they hard to housetrain? I live in a cold climate- it has been below zero here for the last few weeks it seems (above 0 now though). |
I have met people that have litter box trained their yorkies...met an elderly gentleman at the vets one time. I think like any and all training it takes some time. Good luck. Lulu was wee wee pad trained and then moved on to the outside. She is strictly outside now. She doesn't enjoy the rain much but if the weather is bad she goes even faster. |
Oh yes. I did this with mine. I put the pee pads inside the box and that's where they pee! |
Just don't use kitty litter. They hate that stuff inbetween her toes and will never use it. They have special stuff for dogs too. I would just use the peepad myself in a litter box. |
Litter box trained here with pee pad inside .. doing great ..cold and lots of snow here in mn.. little paws have not touched the outside |
My 2 Yorkies are both litter trained (kitty litter) and trained to go outside. I have a large xpen with a large litter box in the back of it. Their food and water and a large, fluffy towel go in there also. They were litter box trained at 7 months in different crates. I already had the xpen but just used it occassionally because they made a big mess often. I kept trying though because there are times when we're gone for 6 hours or so and I wanted them to be comfortable. They moved to the xpen for good when they were a year. They use it rarely at night which surprises me because their food and water are in the pen all the time. They still have an accident in the house once in awhile but things are much better at 17 months than they were at 3 months! Good luck and keep trying. It just takes time. I'm as crazy about my babies now as I was when I brought them home. |
Tucker is litter box trained. We use peepads and tape them in the box. We had to graduate to a taller rubbermaid box because he lifts his leg to pee and he would pee over the side of the dog litter box, ugh! I am so glad we do this because I knew I didn't want to stand in the cold in winter waiting for him to do his business. Julie |
Pepper is pee pad trained. He goes either on pee pad or outside, because my husband and I both work full time, I didn't want him uncomfortable as nobody is there to walk him midday... He's neutered and I just recently saw him lift his leg  outside. But he never attempted it inside... Good luck. |
I have heard that many have good sucess with the pad in the litter box. If you want to buy custom sized washable pads to fit your litter box let me know. |
