HeLp! I nEeD aDvIcE Hello, I have an 11 week old yorkie that I just got last night. I live in Indiana and it is too cold to take him outside. All he does is shake and shiver. What is the best way to potty train them? should I use the puppy pads? Please help Thanks, Angie:aimeeyork |
I am training my 2 girls that are 10 weeks old and I'm using the puppy pads inside a litter pan. They use them with no problems. When it gets nicer outside I'll start training them to go out with the boys. |
If you want to potty train him for outside then I'd dress him really warm for outside, otherwise train him for inside. |
Hello and welcome to YT! We are very close to each other, I also live in IN. We have someone else on this board who is also from Muncie. I would pee pad train him, it makes it so much easier, then when summer comes, you can introduce him to the outdoors. Best of luck! |
I use pee-pads for my girls they go outside only when is not to cold and when is not raining:rolleyes: |
if you really want to potty train him for outside, you have to start NOW. Otherwise, it is very hard to reverse it. get your baby a good warm sweater and find ONE treat that he loves and give that treat to him only and I mean ONLY when he goes potty outside. Soon he'll learn to go out and do his business as fast as he can and then he gets to come back inside where it's warm! |
Hi! & Welcome to YT!!! I live in Martinsville In not to far from u guys. We're gettin a few on here from In. We just may all have to get together someday with r furbabies.:p |

You might go to Walmart or your local pet store and pick up a sweater or two for the house for the winter months. Let us know how things go! |
Thanks everyone for the advice! Last night I went to Wal-mart and got him a green and white stripped sweater.....it falls off of him but hey it does the job. Today it was a little warmer outside so we played outside. He pottied for the 1st time outside!! I made a big deal about it! I have a year old female and he is following her a lot. I think that will also help with his training. I think i am going to stay away from the puppy pads and just tough it out and take him outside. Thanks so much for all your help! What do you all think of the name Max? I have been having a really hard time naming him! Angie:aimeeyork Daisy and "MaX?" |

This is so true! Just because its a cold out doesnt mean you have to give up entirely on training to go outside. Definatly invest in a warm coat/sweater, especially since the pup is so young and small. If it snows, maybe even some booties so their paws wont freeze. With being warm, they will be more accepting to going outside. My Izzy was being trained outside since the begining of november, and now that its in the single digits routinely, she is hesitating but adjusting the frigid cold. I've found that it has sped up her bladder control, cuz now she knows, either I hold it or I face the bitter cold! |
I love the name Max! Welcome :) |
Welcome to yt:) |
I am soooo glad you posted this question. I am going to be getting a little girl in a few weeks. Since I live in Colorado, well its snowing right now. I think I am going to do what you are. Just tough it out in the cold. Plus I love the name Max. Its very fitting for a holiday season puppy. Its the name of the Grinch's dog, and he was sooo cute! |
Yah. Its the best thing. I have had him for a week now and he potties probably 70% of the time outside. The other 30% is my fault. Its getting better, I think hes getting the hang of it and plus he LOVES treats! =) Good luck and take lots of pictures while they are puppies since they change so much! Are you going to name yours Max too? I like it! =) Angie:) ,Daisy:aimeeyork , and Max:animal-pa |
Oops I didn't see where is said your getting a girl. Do you have a name yet? I like Bella. I would name my next female that! Good luck! =) |
