Pottie Training Nightmare!
 
Hi all, I am new to this forum. I was very excited to find this group of Yorkie lovers. My little Mia is almost a year old. I love her so dearly. However, I am still struggling with her house training. I have never used a pad or litter box but am considering to try that. Is it true that Yorkie in general is very difficult to be house trained? Anyone has purchased any online program out there? There're so many and I am willing to try whatever to train her. Please help! Thanks!!!!

Are you home with her during the day to let her out? If not you may want to use the wee pads. They come in washable ones that they can't tear up, and the paper/plastic kind. As far as other training you might want to take her to training classes. They work really well. If it makes you feel better I have an almost 2 year old, and an almost 5 year old, and although there potty trained they don't know a lot of commands other then sit, and stay. Welcome to YT. I'm sure lots of people will come on with more suggestions.

Hi there! Welcome to the board. I'm new here too. It's nice to be able to offer someone else advice!:)

My Hercules is 1 yr old. The breeders had him going on a piddle pad. That was one of the reasons I bought him--he piddled in front of me as if he knew how impressed I'd be that he was half-way trained!

We use the litter box with a piddle pad in it and I LOVE it. I keep one on my main floor and one in the upstairs. When we first brought him home, I brought him to the box every two hours. Then I would whoop it up and give him treats everytime he went. It took about 6 weeks for him to get it down completely. I continue to reward him to this day. Now he is just like having another person in the house. When he needs to go, he goes to his "bathroom" and does his thing. It is liberating for me. I couldn't imagine taking him out several times a day.

As far as the pads go, I let him tinkle on them 5 or 6 times until I throw them. When he poops, I flush it. I really couldn't be simpler. Good Luck!:)

Welcome to YT! Congrats on your new little one.

Potty training can be hard if the breeder doesn't start it before you get the puppy. If you decide to use pads I would definitely recommend the washable ones. They are cheaper in the long run, less likely to be torn up and much more attactive.

If you are interested I do make washable potty pads to sell.
