Puppy won't respond to me I recently agreed to keep my parent's 3 month old yorkie for a month while they travel. I have two of my own in the home. Here's my problem. He doesn't really respond to me. He only wants to play with my dogs. He doesn't come when called. He doesn't respond to his name... He will only sit when I tell him too. If the other two run to me, he will follow, but rarely on his own. He does sleep on my legs at night, but that's about all the love I get. Is there something I am missing? Thanks, Kim:animal36 |

Thanks! I'll try to just let him settle in and come to me naturally.:aimeeyork Yorkies rule!!!! |
He is just a baby. You must remember he only learned to walk and eat on his own a few short weeks ago. He is still learning so much. Just show him lots of love. He will come around. |
I don't think you're doing anything wrong. He's probably just adjusting to his new environment, and the fact that your parents aren't around. |
Thanks Everyone I will take all of your advice to heart. He is soooo precious and I just want him to be happy. He finally kissed me today ! I am sooo happy! Happy holidays to all!:aimeeyork |
Yeah... I think its just the fact that he's not your pup... He's just missing his parents and understandably missing his home. He's just adjusting. I bet at the end of his stay, he wont want to go home :) |
or... we won't want him to go home! Thank for your input!:aimeeyork |
Well, I blame this on the fact that I just finished reading one of Cesar Millan's book, but the concept seems to make sense, so I'll share with you. Try taking him on a long walk so he can get to know the area better and at the same time, strengthen the bond between you two. The book I just finished reading talked a lot about how dogs have a natural instinct to "migrate" to new homes, and that taking a long walk will help them adjust much better to the new environment. I guess its worth a shot! In any case, good luck and have fun! |
