puppy keeps biting and wants to eat poo!!! Well, he gets the peepads when he wants and when we take him out side to go he goes with never one prob. Today my fiance took him out in frount and duncan went pee and then sniffed out some poo and ate a pice my BF grabed the pup and he took what he could of out of his mouth and then we took him to the sink and sprayed water down his moth to wash it out. Why??? he is 3 mo how can I stop him from doing that? Secound, he is forever trying to bite us some times hard. when he plays i gets worse. I feel like We have failed him. |
You have not failed him he is a puppy and doing things puppies do. As far as the poop eating there are things you can buy that will keep him from doing that. When he bites tell him no bite and put a chew toy in his mouth. I have also heard to yelp loudly when he bites like the mother dog would. |
What types of things Could I buy, I was thinking of feeding him more? |
look at like petsmart or petco, there's 'pills' that are similar to treats you can give them to get them to stop eating poop. My Bella used to do that too. :) The pills have got her to stop. |
The ones that I know about are called forbid and deter. |
This should help you with the biting, IMO the single best article ever written on puppy biting- http://www.jersey.net/~mountaindog/berner1/bitestop.htm With the poop eating, what are you feeding him? You could try giving him a little bit of pineapple with his meals, makes the poop taste bad to them. |

I don't know if this is true or not, but my friend told me that the reason the dog tries to eat its poop is because the dog eats too fast and the food isn't fully digested. They said to feed the dog pineapple to prevent it from eating its own poop. I don't know if it actually works... Is it even safe to feed dogs pineapple? Apparently my friend saw this on the "Dog Whisperer." Has anyone else heard of this theory? |
I guess I should have read Lara2913's post. I guess you can feed dogs pineapple! :) |
It's true duncan dose eat fast he can eat all his food up in less then 3 min. Is that bad? |
I've seen special bowls for dogs that eat their food really fast. Here's a link to a website I found. Maybe this will help him. Good luck!:) http://www.handicappedpets.com/acc/bowl/index.html |
I just need to say that I see myself in your post. I remember when Uno was a tiny puppy he was AWFUL! He still is a puppy, 7 months, but waaaay better now. Did he eat his poop? yup. Did he shred pads? sure did! Did he bite me so hard I thought he had rabies??? YES! And I thought I was raising him wrong. But... I bought Uno the pills "Potty Mouth" from the petstore. Worked like a charm. When he went off of it he started eating his poo again (only if it was on his pad for too long....which I think the "clean den" instict kicked in) so he went back on the pills. Now he's fine, and a non-poop eater! :) Don't feed him more though...you'll just make him gain weight. Trust me, it gets SO much better. I couldn't even hold my puppy without him attacking me, and now? Well, he's asleep in my lap as we speak and loves to give kisses. There is hope! And don't worry, it IS a phase and you'll get through it. I didn't believe it when others said it, but now that I have become one of them...i'm telling you the same thing;) |
hi pick up the poop after he goes- then it's not there to eat. he will also grow out of it |
In my experience poop eating lasted for about 5-6 months... but man was it BAD. I heard they are drawn to a mineral they smell in the feces. I think my constant reprimand and just growing out of the poop phase is what worked. good luck with mr. smelly breath. |
