Litter training Who out there uses the litter box made for dogs ? I have heard of a pee pad holder but not sure what that is about. any tips ?? I am getting my mew pup on Tuesday and want to have everything ready. I am close to a Petco and Petland.. Does anyone have opinions on using the pellets in litter box? |
I have heard that some are litter box trained but i am clueless with advice but i know someone here will be able to help. Good luck and congrats on your new baby! |
litter box training It is possible to litter box train your pup.donot use the dog litter pellets as even the smallest are to big for their little feet and they will try to eat it, just use paper as the pee pads are messier and they tend to get messy if they are not held down.you can totally train them in the box although a boy will start to lift his leg at around 6-7 mths so you will need to take him outside unless you are getting him neutered.same training as you would use outside with lots of praise and treats.my boy was totally trained to the box indoors at 5mths and I got him at 4mths I did not get him neutered so now I take him outside also but he still goes poop in the box. |
Congratulation on your new pup:aimeeyork. I have read here of some members that box have work for them, I was always afraid that they will try to eat the pellets, so we use pee-pads and outside when the wether is nice , so most of the time in the winter they use pee-pads:animal-pa |
We use potty pads in a litter box and love it. They are not messy at all- way cleaner than paper IMHO. I use the Arm and Hammer brand from Target and they are extremely affordable. I used to have a frame but prefer the litter box because Sugar likes to go on the very edge and this prevents any accidents. Sugar lifts his leg outside sometimes but squats in the litterbox. Even if he did lift his leg the side would catch it though. It is also so easy to travel with. Let me know if you have any questions. BTW I don't know if you are getting a boy or not but with our's- Spike has never lifted his leg and I think it's because he was neutered at 6 months. Sugar was a year and a half when he was neutered and before that he lifted his leg all of the time- constantly. The very day he came home from his surgery he all but stopped lifting his leg. I think it helps a lot to have them neutered. |
