She is sitting! Peanut just learned to "sit" today! I was so excited!!! She'll do it on command with or without a treat -- although without a treat she does look for it when it's not there! I just figure I'll keep her guessing and reinforce it with treats sometimes and without sometimes. What trick should be next? Stay? Or down? Any tips on teaching stay and/or down? |
our hardest command was come. they say to split people up into diff rooms and give the pup a treat when they show up to being called. i wish we had done that . now after a year she finally will come when called! Bella never has or will ever get the stay command..lol:rolleyes: i used down instead of lay down. that took longer than sit but still learned it in one session. i had to get on the floor with her. first i made her sit. then i put a treat to her nose and slowly lowered it to the floor. that got her face to the floor and i gently guided the rest of her body to the floor in a laying position. I repeated down several times during the process. Because they are so little you have to be on the ground with them. Good luck!:D |
I think stay and come are both really important commands for the dogs safety. |
Congratulations to you ...... and to Peanut!!! A great accomplishment... Shelby & Seymour easily went from "Sit" to "down" within a few tries. You may want to try it! |
i would teach "down" next and then stay, and then come. When i taught them in that order i put morgan in a sit/stay or a down/stay, then walked away and called her to "come" and gave her a treat when she did. |

Congrats:) Mine do not listen to any commands:rolleyes: |
Yeah. Congratulations. I agree that down would be the second command to teach. Then stay and then come. In this order it is an easy transition for her to learn and you to teach. I would work with her for at least a week before moving on to the next one though. This will make sure that she has it down and retains it. Then next week continue with the sit command and add a new command. Keep up the good work. |

she got a bath tonight too, and it was much easier than her last bath! she is SUCH a good girl! :) |
:bravo: How old is she? :) |
Yayy way to go Peanut:thumbup: |
With Suzy I went from sit, to drop to stay. She comes pretty much every time I call her and did from the day we got her (it took her 10 minutes to learn her name so that was lucky) so that hasn't been an issue with us. I'm not sure what to teach her next, either. When training Suzy I used hand commands for each individual command and she does it via verbal, hand or both. I find that comes in really handy, too. |
