Potty Training Help So, I am working on potty training my 15 week old Yorkie, Bailey. My questions to you are: at 15 weeks, how much of the training should I expect him to retain? Am I asking too much by beginning the potty training at 15 weeks? My 2nd issue is that we live on the 2nd floor - if Bailey starts to poop I clap loudly and say no, but he can't seem to stop the flow of poo. Is it too late to take him outside after he has already poo'd in the house? How do I stop him in the middle of pooping and take him to the appropriate place to poop, although I live on the 2nd floor - that is my dilemna. All tips and words of encouragement are welcome! |
Have you thought of litter box training? I am going to try this when i get my new pup... because of the severe cold and snow where i live. lots of info online about litter training.. good luck |

I tried the litter box, but he almost choked on a piece of the litter ( it got stuck crossways at the roof of his mouth), so I decided not to do the litterbox, at least until he can potty on command. he is crate trained right now, but I try to give him a little freedom of the house - so he can stretch his legs and think of it as his home. I think he has already pottied for the day, or it's not time for him to go and he will surprise me and potty in the house. |
Have you tryed the peepads? those might be an option for you;) |
He goes on the pee pads just fine - but he wont poop on the pee pads. Whenever he is not in his crate, I watch him like a hawk, and if I catch him, and run him outside, he won't finish - it's like his urge is already on. I then put him back in the crate and wait 30 mins. I ultimately want him to be fully trained to go outside to potty - and to alert me as to when he needs to go out. |
