How to sit still after a Bath? I am new to this yorkie bathtime, for the past 5 weeks Macy has taken her bath in my kitchen sink very well. (once a week) But when I take her out and dry her off she is ok at first when she is soaking wet. Once she is a little dry she just squirms, wiggles and twists her way after from me. This morning she bit my finger, didn’t break the skin or even leave a mark but it was just the thought of it. It was way more than her normal - puppy gnawing I was just wondering how everyone else dries their babies off. I use a small blow drier, does it matter if they are not completely dry? She wasn’t going outside cause it was almost time for me to go to work- I usually bath at night but this morning she got a bath because she woke me up at 4 AM and what better to do when the rest of the house is sleeping and I wasn’t about to go to work that early! I would really like to get her trained to sit to be dried off now while she is a puppy. Any helpful YT tips? |
I wrap Maggie up in a big fluffy towel. Nearly all the water is soaked into the towel. Just a touch up with the dryer, is all it takes. |
If Codie or Katie start to squirm when I go to blow dry them, I usually give them a bully stick or a bone to munch to (it distracts them). Or even a toy should work. Good luck! |
When I started getting my dog use to the blow dryer I would hold the blow dryer at arm length and blow dry their back and sides. I didn't blow dry their head because it would have been too scary for them. I also had the blow dryer on LOW. After time, they got use to the noise and being blow.. |
Tino goes nuts after he gets out of the bath too. He likes to squirm and roll all over the floor...He looks sooooo happy when he's doing it, soooo I just put him in the bathroom with the door closed and let him do his thing and I sit on the floor and blow him dry while he has his fun. He'll run around and then come and put his head in my lap and we get him all dry this way. I always use the "cool" button on the dryer for his face, but he loves to have it done! |
Thanks, I will have to try that with the door shut- I have a small bathroom. Have a great weekend everyone, I'm off to go camping! |
After wrapping Mya in her bath robe so soak up most of the water, I lay a thick bath sheet on the carpet so she can do her doggy just had a bath thing. They go crazy and rub themselves on the towel, this is typical with all dogs. After I brush her a bit then blow dry her in the bathroom me standing her on the floor to make sure it is not too hot or too strong. I brush her a bit more with she is still damp then blow dry a little more. I then put a tiny bit of after dry conditioner in her hair and that makes her go crazy again running around. After a drink of cold water she then settles down. All dogs want to run and rub after a bath, maybe that is why yours was squirming? |
Try it with two I have two boys and I bathe them one at a time, but at the same time (one after the other) and I found that I could not keep a towel on the one, while I was bathing the other, so I bought terry robes (Petedge.com) for $5 with big rubber yellow duckies on the back and had a friend embroider their names above the ducky. Really cute!!! I quickly towel dry the first one, put him in his terry robe, and then do the other. By the time I put the second one in his robe, the first is ready to be blown dry. And by the time I finish the first, the second is ready, plus they look so darn cute!! I also gave these robes as part of another forums gift exchange with the other pups names embroidered on them. |

Millie- I have that exact robe from PetEdge! It is the cutest thing!!! |
SIT ? AFTER a bath ? no such thing with a yorkie - They NEED to do the Happy Dance ! |
I'll lay a few towels out on the floor, after I have already towel dried him, and he will rub against them, do flips on them dig underneath them and pretty much dries himself off on the towels. I will pull the blow dryer out and blow him a little bit (esp. if he seems cold). But if he seems warm I just let him do his thing, then afterwards he is usually pooped and falls right to sleep and that is when i brush him. |
