Feeding  I just brought home a 9 1/2 week old Thursday and would like all of your recommendations for the feedings. Should I feed him 2 or 3 times a day? The breeder said she was feeding him twice, but all the research I've done said that when they are this young to feed him 3 times. Also, can you include the hours at which you would feed him (Eg, 6 am, 12 pm, 6 pm) I'm new to the smaller dog and I know that hypoglycemia is a problem. Just wanted to do the best by Parker!! :) |
You want to feed 3 times a day. I free feed kibble and give a little canned in the morning. I also home cook a couple times a week |
At 9 1/2 weeks I would feed at least 4 times, he is a teeny tiny baby. Like 7am, 11am, 2pm, 6pm and then a snack right before he goes to bed. Something like that. |
Feeding two! Chachi--I see that you have two dogs. We are awaiting our second puppy (who will be 8-10 weeks old when she gets her--not sure when she'll be ready). Given that I already have a almost 2 year old Yorkie, how do you handle feeding two? Rockie currently eats when he wants to--we just leave it in his dish but I have a feeling that he'd readily eat out of Roxxanne's bowl when it's time for her to eat just for the competitiveness. Also, do you have any other suggestions when working with an older dog and a puppy?? :animal36 |

i'd move to 3 times a day at 12 weeks and continue that to 20 weeks or so, then you can move to twice a day. or continue to just free feed. |
