NEED HELP/ADVICE on Hidden FENCES Hello Everyone, hope yall are having a nice day :-) I have a problem. I need to find an hidden fence system for my rental property for my Yorkie who is below 5 lbs. Hidden Fencings varies in material and technology, for instance: wireless, underground wires, Innotek is a popular brand and they all have shock collars I do believe. Anyway, I need a way to keep my little Tinkerbell in the yard without building any kind of structures in the yard, like a typical chain link fence because I am renting the property. However, on most of the hidden fences that I have read about, they say "For Dogs Above 5 Pounds" and so I am wondering if any of you use a hidden fence and also have a smaller yorkie under 5 lbs. that is safe and works well. Tinkerbell is very bull headed and so I think it might be challenging for her to be shocked. Anyway, any advice you can provide me with is surely appreciated! Thanks to All Yorkie Lovers! :yorkietal |
Wow - I've heard of them but know no one who has one - big help huh ? Can you put up some kind of removeable fence that could come down when you move or something ? Even a wood fence ? That's what I have and I couldn't live without it... |
I use one for my big dogs and it has been the best thing ever. However like you say I believe most of them are not for smaller dogs. The one I have even says 8lbs or bigger. The collars I have vibrate as a warning that they are getting too close before it even shocks them. So maybe if you could put them on a level were they vibrated only it would just scare her. However I don't know if you can. They have companies that install the fences and train them maybe you could call one of them just for their advice on using one on a dog this small. Like I said before though I haven't seen one that says its safe for a dog under 8lbs. I really don't know if I could use it on my yorkie even if it were safe. Its hard when you are training them and they get shocked you feel really really really bad. Keep looking into it though, there may be a setting or something that wouldn't actually shock the pup. |
I'm sorry, I don't have a solution for you. The only things I think of are the kennels people have mention in previous post or walk your dog on a flexi-lead. I don't think anyone make it for dogs your size. The ones available are too heavy around your yorkie's neck. Also, since it is a rental property, I don't know if your landlord will like it if you dig up his/her yard to bury the wire for the invisible fence. |
I haven't heard of any for small dogs either and maybe I'm just a wuss but I would just feel too horrible. I'm bad enough now when I have to correct my baby for something - the way he shakes and tucks his tail in - I almost want to cry - I can only imagine how I would be if he got shocked... Dana |
