question about belly bands I've never used them so I don't know what exactly their purpose is. Since we are having an extremely difficult time with Smokey, would it be possible to teach him bladder control by using a belly band? Is that what they are for? HELP! |
I don't know about bladder control. I use them on Cozmo, because he is a marker. He marks everything and anything. Hopefully it will stop some after Wed when he gets fixed. Cozmo is a rescue Yorkie. He will be 2 in Jan. And this is what he was taught instead of going potty. But I do know that some people do use them for potting in the house. I hope that does help some. Maybe some others will post to help you out. |
Wow I never thought of marking?! Maybe Smokey is just marking his "territory".... AHHHA! |

I got a belly band for my little boy so when we are visiting friends he won't mess in their house (knowing he is not potty trained). He has only worn it a couple of times and he got it off in the middle of the night (while on an overnight visit). He is getting close to 7 months old and we are still having potty training issues so I searched YT for some suggestions. Week or so ago was a post and someone recommended Mark Out. That site says pups don't like to be wet and that is the premise behind it. I went ahead and ordered some (along with the training book) but haven't received the product yet. I am also planning to make some other changes in the housebreaking dept. once I receive the markouts. So unfortunately, in answer to your question....I don't know, but I'm going to try. PS- the fabric belly band I already bought uses panti-liners to keep him dry, thus my reason for trying the mark out. Before reading their website I always assumed it would be harder to house break using belly bands b/c there would be no way to know when he was going so I could try to stop the act while it was still going on. Plus seems like he would then think he could just go anywhere any time. There may be others on here who have more info. Hope this helps! |
My baby who is almost 3 uses a belly band. (he has a very small bladder and it was damaged from him getting into green tea diet pills). The bands are perfect...I use a regular baby diaper, do not unfold, and place sideways around the waist., I get a little larger belly band to go around his waist and the diaper. I found it to be the perfect solution. Most dogs won't have the urge to lift thier legs with the belly band on. Yorkies are already hard to train anyways, so if he is not broken by 8 months, he probably is too stubborn to do so. Don't give up...just give in and belly band him.;) |
I don't know if he's marking, or if he just has a small bladder. I've only had him two weeks today and he's 7 months old. I don't think he's stubborn, he's just never had any training. He's been in and out of different houses. |
Belly bands are essentially of no use to train him but they will keep your furniture and carpet dry. |
