Has anyone ever heard of this??
 

It's a book called "Smarter than you Think" by Paul Loeb.

He has a very different approach to training/raising dogs.

Anyone tried his methods?
I've been thinking of using some when I get my dog.

I am interested in what the book has to say. I have never heard of it, but would read if recommended. What does it say about potty training? I am in the middle of that.......

The author himself is a little full of himself, but he has some good techniques.
When it comes to potty training, he is against using a crate. His way of confinement is a tether which is an 18 inch chain (of course the weight of it should be something suitable for yorkies) and hook it to an eyehook in your destined spot in the house. You could also attach it to a permanent object such as a leg of a table, or bed. the other end should be connected to the dog of course on his collar (or in a yorkie's case his harness). Of course, the length of time on the tether should be around the same time you would have him in a crate. He also has what he calls the cardboard match trick. It's when you take your puppy to the place you want him to go and you take a cardboard match wet the end of it and stick it in your puppy's bum (I'm not too sure about this one myself) but he says that it doesn't hurt the puppy because the match is smaller than the thermometer that the vet uses. But, when you do this the puppy will want to push it out and in turn he will use the bathroom. That's just a little about what he says about housebreaking. He has a whole chapter about it so I would be here all night long if I were to type all of it.

I read a lot of the reviews for the book on amazon and there are a lot of positive ones.

My suggestion is that you do what I did and borrow it first from your local library then if you like it buy it.

I am telling you in advance that he does a lot of bashing against other expert's techniques. But some of his training techniques I think I would be more comfortable using other than the others.
