Just make sure that your yorkie doesn't really tear at it for extended periods of time. Once in a while, a strand will natrually fall off after a lot of use and stretching. Oh, and it's easy to wash! |
Seeing the picture of the yorkie chewing on a rubber thong made me chuckle and brought back some long ago memories. I remember when I was little that ours would latch onto the back of my thongs as I was walking and would hang on and wouldn't let go. Hence, my thongs always had tooth marks in the backs of them:) Muffin always liked those hollow vinyl balls that squeak. She could hold onto them with her little mouth. She'd get ahold of one and look up at us and all you could see was two eyes and a big red ball:) She did learn to catch them if you tossed them in the air. One time she got into trouble with one, though, because she always liked to tear them up at the opening (where they squeak) and somehow she got the tiny rubber ring caught on one of her back teeth. That caused a panic for her and for us. She was scratching at her mouth and I didn't know what was wrong. Thought she was choking at first. Rushed to the vet. They anesthetized her and found the ring around one of her back teeth!!! Her favorite lifetime toy, though, was a stuffed doggy that got washed many times over 14 years and was well-chewed. |
toys toys toys! 1 Attachment(s) I imagine that all dogs are different...but here are the essentials in my house. *easy to grab rubber ball for fetch *big floppy plush squeeky toy (almost as big as she is) that is fun to shake around *rope "bone" (the kind with a knot at each end) *a Nylabone (the blue nubby dental kind) *nubby ring with a squeaky toy attached (I'm attaching a picture of just the ring but they make them with a plush squeaky attached that those are way more fun) You can get some wonderful stuff at wal-mart. Their plush toys are loosly-stuffed so they are great for shaking. And they have good rubber balls and rope bones. The rest of this stuff I had to get at an actual pet-store. Sydney likes toys that are big so that she can drag them around and they "fight back". And she is a huge chewer so that's why she likes the Nylabone and the nubby ring so much. It's really cute and funny to watch her rummaging around in her toy box to find the toy she is looking for. I'll attach some pictures of her favorites next week but I don't have any on my computer right now. ;) Good luck finding out what Elbow likes. I hope this helps. |
If you have an older dog who has jealous toy destroying tendencies, be careful with the rings. I got a really cool tug of war rope that had one of those in the middle and our lab worked on it a bit hard. She eventually tore it apart. She and Edgar apparently ate some of the pokey pieces before we discovered it. Gladly they suffered no tummy problems. |
The three things that Chewy loves: 1. Grunting Rat. 2. Bite Me hand-puppets. 3. Kitty Fishing Pole. |
Dr. Noy's x-small toys 2 Attachment(s) Winston has so many toys. Like yours, he chews the heck out of them. His most favorite is Dr. Noy's extra small duckie. Talk about squeak heaven. He can sit and chew on that duckie forever. We ended up getting him 3 of them because they get so chewed up and dirty. Most of the time one gets washed and another get put in Mommy's hospital. Winston would just sit and wait so patiently for me to sew up his duckie. |
Wosie loves to play! She began playing fetch with us the very first day we brought her home at 8 weeks. We have to be quite patient about our turn as she will chomp and worry the object she is carrying for about 5 minutes before getting bored and wanting it to be thrown again. We don't try to get her to drop it unless she wants to. She'll do it on her own. Her favorite game right now seems to be toss! She will take her chew bone and fling it straight up in the air, and sometimes at us so we have to throw it back to her! The first time she did it I thought I would wet myself laughing at the expression on my recently toy-pelted husband's face, lololol. Neither one of my other yorkies ever flung toys. Wosie's toy box contains: Cat ball: pink fleece (cat toys are great) Nylabones Pink fleece squeeky pig Baby teething rings: 5 Baby teeting rattle:2 Fleece bear Fleece frisbee w/squeeker Fuzzy mouse (cat toy)w/bell (fastened really well, we watch her) Fleece star mini-kong (she LOVES that thing, carries it around) crazy ball (hard rubber egg-shaped bouncer) She also likes the white bone-knot mini chews, but I only let her have them when I can watch her, such as grooming time. They unravel and scare me as she chews then to shreds and I can't imagine her digesting them. I just love toys, and every time I go to the pet store she gets a new one. She goes to her toy box and exchanges one for another now! Next thing to do is teach her to pick them ALL up when she is done playing for the day, lol like that will ever happen! HAH! Spoiled rotten puppy... |
Sadie loves things that arent actually toys lol. We bought her every toy imaginable and she looooves to play with water bottles, toilet paper rolls, plastic lids, a plastic egg separator, flip flops (we had to buy her a pair of her own from old navy lol) and her most favourite toy is a really thick paper towel type tube tied to a string. lol |
what the heck is a bite me handpuppet? |
Mickeys fav toys are Plastic water bottles. Any thing squeaky. and Minnie only plays with Those hard little cat balls. Just make sure you dont get the real small ones that they can choke on. |
Gucci loves her chew rope, plush squeaky balls, rubber squeaky balls and the plush toys from McDonald's. She also loves to play with the empty roll of paper and plastic bottle caps. I love it when she flings her balls and the plastic caps. |
You got to go to the fun and toys forum and click on Hamoth's post, Grunting Rat, Best toy ever!!! I swear I never laughed so hard! The grunting rat has caught on at my house, I have to watch because my very possessive Kansas will get nasty with Indiana over the rat. I also got the grunting cow which is a big hit. They are BIG stuffed toys, but Indy likes toys big. His favorites is when he can steal my shepherd's King Kong. He can't pick it up, but drags it to a corner and chews on it. |
Reagan loves all the norms, squeeky toys, small balls, McDonald toys, etc. She has a few stuffed animals that are as big as her as well. One thing we have done here that I don't believe anyone has mentioned yet is hang one of her toys (the one we used is a small DrNoys frog) from the ceiling. She loves it and will play with it forever. Sometimes she will get it down and we will leave it down for a while (I guess so she will miss is) then put it up again and she gets so excited. If anyone trys this just try and hang the toy so it is just at head height when they are standing on their back legs just to make sure that they can't get the string around their neck. You could get small hooks in the hardware section and hang it in a door way or such. We have one of those drop down stairs for our attic and just hung it from that handle. |
I think every yorkie is different, but Bender is a stuffed animal man. His favorite toy is his stuffed Brain (the mouse) that he's had since he was 3 months old (well, kinda...since back in May Mouse went on vacation for a month and came back all shiney and clean! aka, I went on ebay and bought him a new one because Mouse's head was almost off). He specifically likes stuffed toys that are about the same size as he is. He's usually not into things that make noise, though he really likes this new toy Spongebob snail toy we got him that meows, growls, and snarls when you hit it against something. |

Because my babies love them too!!! :) :) |
Yorkie's will usually play with anything that you can buy them. Try buying him like fuzzy bones with the squeaky bubble inside and incidentally what is a toner toy. Or try buying him the little red bouncer snowmen that you can put the treats inside of he might like those. |
Chattie, Chizzie and Peppy's favorite chew toy of all times is ....... my husband Ron! They love his toes! When toes are covered, fingers will do just fine. Chizzie loves the little balls with bells inside and Chattie and Peppy favor Dr. Noy's tiny stuffed animals with squeakers that can be replaced. |
Unfortunately, Susan has developed a new penchant for art supplies. Not good. A lot of them could hurt her. Plus she probably cost me a good $25 over the past few days and she hasn't even managed to get hold of the things she really covets. |
I have learned that every dog is different. When I first got my fur baby, everyone was telling me I had to get a kong. "Kong! Kong! Kong!" "Dogs love Kongs!" "Get a Kong!" So of course, I did. And wasn't I surprised when he hated it, simply refused to look at it much less touch it. So you have to try a few things and see what works for your dog. |

My dog love the little rubber squeaky toys. And little stuffed animals with squeakys in them. They HATE the kong toy and anything I pay good money for  and hard toys or the hard rubber chew things. Basically it has to make noise :D to entertain them. |
Hi...I'm new to the board today... I have a Yorkie/Chi mix and she is ADORABLE. The very best thing she likes to play with is socks. She has LOTS of "real" toys but still likes socks best. She has this "thing" she does..she loves to grab my fingers...only mine...she doesn't do it to anyone else...go figure. While I'm on here I must tell you that when I first got her (June 2004) she was a terror..I did NOT know how to handle this puppy..she was 15ozs and a demon..I had just lost my 11 year old Boston a few months earlier and we decided that we couldn't handle the emptiness any longer and would look for a new puppy... we wanted a completely different breed because we just knew we wouldn't be able to ever have another Boston..she was our one and only and could never be replaced.Anyways, I know this is long but to get to the point..are all yorkies terrors or maybe it's the chi in her.I've never had a chihuahua and don't know any one who does. Just to let you all know..she is PERFECT now. |
Socks, Squeak toys, Paper Towels, Bones, Paper Plates, Anything that they're not supposed to, Paper napkins, Rocks, Toilet Paper, Paper Pee Pads Paperback books, Did I mention PAPER??? |
The number one toy that my girls turn to again and again is a piece of bedsheet which my husband tied some knots on! That can play tug of war for hours and growl at each other, trick each other and chase each other :) When we only had one dog, it was her favorite toy as well, as long as we had the energy to play tug of war with her - no fun alone! If she was to occupy herself for a while, we would give her a chewing stick made of ox hide, a nice big one that would be a challenge to her - that was a hit as well. Now that they are 2, even if we give them one each, the funniest thing is to trick the other ones stick away :) |
Scoozies! 2 Attachment(s) The Winner and the Absolute #1 Favorite: Scoozies: Beavers, Ferrets, Otters, Pine Martens and others. About 12" long, each Scoozie makes many individual sounds when pressed (bitten) on the back. They used to be in stores, but are now found on e-Bay. My Yorkies love them! Second Place: The 4" Plush Squirrel Kong and the 4" Plush Chipmunk Kong, they have removable/replaceable squeekers and rate second to Scoozies. Third Place: A Red Rubber Snake that I cannot find anywhere! They have bitten off it's nose and it's tail (obviously it no longer squeeks). I wish I could find this toy again! I also buy the rope knots ~ I buy a "big dog" one with a knot at each end, and cut them in half, kind of a two for one. Both my Yorkies pick up their toys. I pick them up and put them all in a basket. Chipper piles them all in Dad's chair. Mini piles them all by the backroom sliding glass door. Around and around we go! |
It sounds like some Yorkies are terrors, but Susan has been pretty lady like most for the time since day one. She occasionally comes up with a bad habit (like stealing art supplies) but mostly she just wants to please. Mom's Yorkie is what I call an air dog. She flies. Her paws hardly ever touch the ground in the living room -- she just sails from chair to chair or table to table. |
Susansmom...I can relate to the table thing, Katie just loves to be "up" on things...she likes to get up on the back of the sofa..on the end tables and when hubby sits in the recliner she climbs to the top of his shoulders...she has NO fear and of course I'm running to get her in case she falls...and yes, she loves to eat paper...she ate my pay check and I had to put the pieces in a baggy and take them back to get a new one. She "stole" $20.00 out of hubbies pocket once...she "steals" everything and anything but paper is her favorite.. |
my Sophie love cat balls! they are like 97 cents ot petco and super cheap at walmart... she loses them so often i have to buy more... she loves the ones with the bell inside.. seem to keep her occupied for a short period... |
oh yeah... usually i shop more in the cat section for sophie... just use common sense and don buy the ones with feathers and things that can easily be swallowed... |

Too funny, Obie LOVES toes! You can't get dressed without him, going for your toes. I usually get his flossie and keep him entertained as I dress, but poor daddy. His toes are scrumptious!! |
Beenies India is absolutely in love with her little beanie bunny, smaller than a beanie baby. it's soft, but has a little bit of a "chew" factor. She flips it all around and literally throws it across the room. It's also machine washable...not sure what we'll do if it ever gets lost or chewed on for good! |
