When you play fetch with your Yorkie... Do they bring the toy back and drop it, do they bring it back and place it in your hands or do they do like Oscar and bring it back only to fight like Hell to keep you from really getting it back away from them...LOL He wants to play so bad but the only way I can get the toy is to ignore him, then he will drop it on my lap and I have to split second grab it...then the game is on and we start all over again...it is a very tiring game really...but he is so much fun!!! |
Sounds just like my roxi! I through her toy she runs to get it....brings it to me...and refuses to give it up (until I play fight with her to get it). I think it depends on their personality! Some like to be the boss (roxi) and some are happiest when we are happy(not roxi). I think it's cute how they have their own personality, like little people! |
Yeah...and Oscar really gets into the fight...he does the snarling and growling (no harm intended)...he thinks he is so bad...but if ignored, he will cave and let me have the toy. When he plays with my hubby he more easily relinquishes the toy. What is so funny with hubby is that Oscar always second guesses him and runs down the hall BEFORE he throws the toy...then hubby will make him wait, all the time laughing his butt off...sometimes he throws it in the opposite direction or makes Oscar come back to the chair before he throws the toy...they are BOTH a couple of brats!!! Yorkies are such a riot! |
Oh my gosh, isn't it fun! My Katy will run get the ball, pretend to leave it at your feet, then steal it back just as you almost get it in your hands and run as fast as she can away from you. We will chase her around the coffee table until we are all tired. It is just like my 3 year old granddaughter! |

Great idea! I am going to have to remember that one. Katy will snatch it in a heart beat. Quote:

With Tigger it really depends. sometimes he drops it in my hands others he plays tug-o-war and others he drops it on my lap. These yorkies they're so funny sometimes. |
Holly loves to play fetch and will play tug of war before giving it up.If she is really hyper, she will run madly in circles around the sofa with the toy!She loves to squeak the squeaky ones! |
Tino is a bit rubbish with fetch, I throw the ball, he runs after it and picks it up and runs away! Or comes back to me without it! lol. I have no idea how to get him to bring it back to me. |

Mollie wants us to chase her, then gets mad at us when we don't. Wyatt will drop it at his feet and then when you reach for it sometimes he puts his paw on it and sometimes he picks it up and runs. If he really wants to play, he let's us get it. |
:p Toto always "kills" it before she brings it to you!! It's soooo funny and we just wait patiently until the "varment" is dead ... then we throw it again! Alona, we taught Toto using treats and after she learned to bring it to us, the treats aren't even necessary ... she loves the play as much as she did the treat!! ;) |
Yes it is all about the tug of war, at my house, I have learned that if I sit on my hands, or he can't see them, he will drop it, but ya gotta get it quick, he is learning to leave it, and when I go to get it, I say " Sit, Wait" and he is learning to. |
Daisy will bring things back to me and drop them right in front of me and then as soon as I go to pick it up she grabs it and runs around! Chloe really isnt into fetch she just sits there when you throw her toys! |
It must be a Yorkie Thing then...they want to play so bad but don't want to give up that toy for a second...Oscar plays differently with Harley, his Bichon Buddy...Oscar will run to one end of the house with a toy with Harley in hot pursuit, but then when they come back thru, Harley has the toy with Oscar in hot pursuit...something tells me Oscar gives in more easily to his canine counterpart! Now if Oscar could only learn to pick up his toys...LOL...YEAH RIGHT!!! |
