Bully Sticks Are Great!
 
I am so glad I took recommendations from other Yorkie parents about bully sticks. Henry is so hyper being that he is only 11 weeks old. Playing with the same 3 toys seem to lose his attention and I was running out of things to do after 30 minutes. Tonight I bought 2 bully sticks and a small antler. He absolutely LOVES the bully stick and chewed on it most of the evening- I was even able to watch a t.v. show! When it was time for bed, I didn't let him have the stick because I want him to crave it and not just have it all the time. During morning play time tomorrow, I am going to introduce him to the antler and see what he thinks. If he likes it, I am thinking I will leave it in the crate for him tomorrow while I am at work. I hope he continues to like these chew toys especially during his teething months because they are a God send!

I agree that bully sticks are amazing and I'm so happy that Henry loves them! With that being said I never leave my boys edible bones when I'm not home because they can be a choking hazard. I always am around when they chew. I have seen my boy break a pretty decent sized piece of a bully stick off and I took it out of his mouth before it caused issue. Just be careful.

What is a bully stick by definition? I have a cow's tail for Nilla (got from the local pet boutique) and they have a few other kinds of gnawables (I think one had to do with a fish ... ewh, lol). I guess I could ask the lady that runs it if she has any, I just want to know what exactly it is.

If you think a fish is bad then I'm a little hesitant to tell you about bully sticks! It's a bull penis.:p

Lol, ohhh. I'll have to tell my husband that we need to get a bull penis for Nilla to chew on and gauge his reaction. I'm half awake, slightly embarrassed, and highly amused. :tongue030

I know it sounds awful and may take a while to get used to the idea (maybe don't tell your husband?) but dogs really love them. I've ordered from here before: Bully Sticks - All Natural Dog Treats - Best Bully Stick and in fact just placed a new order for more bullysticks and some other really strange animal chews that we've never tried before:eek:

I'm just teasing. :p I am just imagining reactions ... "Do you sell bull penis here?" I'm sure they do really love them: I've seen a lot of talk of them on these forums. I thought the cow's tail was odd the first time I saw it. I guess you just have to adjust to the ideas.

Agreed! Our two love them so much that we have to limit them to about 20-30 min a day. It's their before bed treat. If we let him, our boy would eat the whole thing in one sitting. If we let them chew too long, it will give him a bit of diarrhea, but he tends to have a sensitive tummy.

With the bullies, I'd be very careful about choking and also an upset tummy. We toss the bullies in the trash when they get down too small. I would also suggest that you watch Henry carefully the first time you give him anything new.

Hey, at least the bullies are good to keep him busy long enough for you to enjoy a TV show. :D

I've ordered from Best Bully Sticks for some time now. I've always had a good experience with them. Their prices are reasonable and my three really like their bully sticks. In fact, I have an order due tomorrow, and they had a "bag of bones" for $5.00 (originally $14.99). I ordered a bag along with my bully sticks. Gonna give them a try.

But I do supervise mine all the time and take them away when they get down to a size they might swallow.

I used to get the bully sticks too but have since switched over to the Himalayan's that Ryan a YT member sells. OMG Mine love love love the Himalayan's!!!! ...and they don't stink nearly as much!

Okay, okay ... I went to our local pet boutique again today (because I cannot for the life of me stay out of there anymore), and they had bully sticks and bully strips, so I got Nilla a bully strip. Yes, I got Nilla a bully strip after our conversation. I am pretty sure it and Zuke's peanut butter treats are crack for puppies.

LOL, I'm glad I'm not the only one! My husband keeps saying, "I'm disturbed at how much she likes chewing on that ..." After I brought it in I asked if he knew what a bully stick was and he guessed it right off the bat! :animal-pa

My girls absolutely love them too. They chew on them all the time if I let them. I have noticed that when they have them they do not eat as much food. Anther drawback is Suzi our yorkie. She has her own bully stick , but always takes the other one from our Tzu and hides it. Then the 2 of them will fight over the one. So my son and i have to find the other one and make sure both dogs are happy. my goodness it is like having 2 babies fighting over a toy:rolleyes:

they dont have them in asia! I know that not only are bully great for their entertainment but also for loosing baby teeth and some say it helps with their dental!

So during Coco's teething I got her serveral different types of gums but they're no bully stick! Coco lost a lot of her baby teeths but needs to get 4 fangs out :(

I've read that they come from steer butchered for meat. So the cow would have been dead anyway. It's just using up the leftover parts instead of wasting them.

I have to say that bully sticks keep my little girl out of trouble. She gets the urge to chew and the bully sticks last a long time. She chewed almost all day on her first one but at least she was not going around stealing things off of tables and out of closets and the like. Now she chews about 20 to 30 minutes a day. I ordered her some of the orderless ones last month but they did not seem to last as long. I do like to get her the foot long thicker ones as she just loves them and I don't have to worry about her chewing them down too fast. Has anyone else tried the orderless bully sticks?

Toby's all time favorite chew is the Himalayan. He will gnaw on one off and on all day long. Best Bullies sells low odor bully sticks and they are much better than the regular ones.

We have tried the odorless ones for Louie but he does not seem to like them as much as the smelly ones:) My concern with the odorless ones is how do they process the smell out of them? I agree the odorless ones do not seem to last as long.

What I read was that the ones that smell have not had all the fluids drained out of them. Like urine and blood I guess. The orderless ones we received were a much lighter, like a pale yellow color, and were not as chewy. They were more brittle and so she was able to chew them down much faster.

They just dry them out longer, I believe.

Pigs ear
 
Hi, I am new to Yorkie talk, I have posted this earlier today, but I can't find it...I have no idea where it went lol. But I give my 3 month old a Pigs ear to chew on...lasts him for a long long time.....he knaws at it sometimes for an hour or more...sometimes at night I will hold it and he just bites it alternating sides of his mouth ....another alternative.:cool:

I know some dogs love pigs ears but mine won't touch them. They are much easier to find where I live but she does not care that I have to pay shipping when I order bully sticks!

RDB911 sells the himalayan's. I switched over to these as well. We had a choking incident with Levi...ended up in the ER vet do to bully stick. I swear by Ryan's himalayan chews we buy them by the case from Ryan. I feel that the himalayan's are safer than the bullies. The pieces of the himalayan break off in small tiny pieces. I also would not give pig ears to a yorkie. Yorkies are prone to pancreatic issues and pig's ears are very high in fat.
