The Mysterious Appearing Ball For some reason, every time this tennis ball appears at my feet and I throw it, it mysteriously reappears at my feet. My only clue is something brushes up against my leg just before it's appearance but I just can't figure it out...;) Anyone with a tennis ball/fetch junkie?:animal36 |
I've got a tennis ball junkie. In fact it has gotten so out of control with Cooper that I had to take it away. For a month!! When he has his ball he wants nothing more than to have it thrown. He doesn't pay attention to Max, food, or any other toys and treats. He lays with it all day and brings it to bed at night. If nobody plays with him he will bark continually! I will say that after taking the ball away he's a changed dog! He has lots of other interests now. We are working on reintroducing the ball back to him for maybe an hour or 2 per day. Max has learned to steal it from him, so at least we are having fun with it now. Poor boy. When he doesn't have his ball he's frantically searching through the house for it. Today is day 3 of having it back. He's sleeping in the windowsill with his chin on top of it. |
I have to hide them away. Lula gets awfully demanding and it never ends! My boyfriend at one point decided to test how long it would take for her to get sick of playing fetch... he gave up after 3 hours. |
Oh, yes! We have to put the balls away and out of reach except for the designated fetch time every evening. Of course, we play fetch with many of their gazillion toys all day long, but it's not quite as obsessive! |
too cute!! Mine will fetch the ball but NEVER return it! lol  |
That sounds exactly like Kandi. I can't tell you how many mornings I have been (rudely) awakened by a ball dropping on my face! LOL! :p But then she gives me kisses, so it's okay. :D |
And...we had to take her tennis-type balls away and replace them with others without the "furry" stuff on the outside. I don't know why, but she likes to eat that stuff off of the tennis ball. |
My male cavalier, Cooper, has tennis ball compusions as well!:D We have to take his away from him, too, because otherwise it gets ugly. He loves to play with anything (as does Zoe), but those tennis balls...WOW! (He also pulls the fuzz off them at times.) Did you ever see the movie Spanglish...when she says "DON'T throw the ball!!!"? We quote that hundreds of times. :) |
1 Attachment(s) A VERY rare moment... |
Lol at all the little "go-fetch" pups here. I've had to start putting the ball away, he only gets a couple hours a day with it, and for about 30 minutes he will sit and stare at wherever I put his ball and cry...poor pup |
...well, I do know it's "compulsions", not "compUsions" Sorry |
Remy likes a squeaky mouse toy. When I am cooking dinner it "appears" on my feet. If I don't notice Remy is sure to bark to remind me it is there. |
Belle LOVES playing fetch with tennis balls. She always drops one at my husband's feet in the mornings when he's getting ready for work. We play fetch all day. He also plays fetch with her while eating dinner. She seems to never tire of it. |
I get the same deal with the rag rope ball in the house LOL... Stranger yet...I bough one tennis ball ever it came with the stick to extend my throw (the mini one) anyways we have about 6 tennis balls here in varying sizes...some the size of a soft ball! Where did they come from...??? One of the neighbors must be tossing it over the fence thinking it's our ball...many of them from a house down from them...and the fur or skin kids bring them in...well we actually had two on our front porch door way so I'm guessing someone thinks they are ours...even the Great Dane sized one for my miniatures... |

Tibbe loves his tennis balls now but when I first got him, he could not get his mouth open enough or figure out how to just grab the ball by the fuzz, as his muzzle is too small to fit around the ball and it was too firm to squeeze part of it into his mouth. He would bark and bark and bark at it and then try to bite it again - and it would pop forward and bounce away. More barking and barking. Finally, he got the hang of how to get a bite of just a bit of it but he still "fumbles" the ball when in play and still "chews it out" regularly. I finally have to put the nice tennis balls away as this can go on f o r e v e r. |
OMG, ours has a tennis ball fetish or really any kind of a ball. He has had 2 fuzzy squeaker balls that he has totally demolished already. He too will drive you crazy with wanting you to play fetch or catch. He is really good at catching it in midair. It is so Funny. But we also took them all away for a few weeks and then found them for a few hours at a time. It has helped too. These dogs are something else......I keep saying to my hubby that this dog is so NEEDY. |
This whole thread is cracking me up, I thought Princess was the only one that needed help! As for mid-air catching, I've been trying to teach her, and she, well, she DUCKS!!! I feel too guilty taking her balls away, she really loves them but wow, it can get annoying! And I don't know if others are like this but when she brings it to me she will not drop it! I have to fight her for it, sometimes almost prying her mouth open, then as soon as she feels me taking possession she'll "go long"!:D |
Oh this is so funny, Jasper will a lot of time not drop it either. He sits and whines with the ball in his mouth but he won't drop it for me to throw. So Funny. He will play and play until he drops....and the ball is still in his mouth. These dogs are just hilarious. We have sooo much fun with him...although some days it can be exhausting haha..... |
Emma LOVES to fetch...the only problem we have is that she NEVER stops!! :p |
Im kind of happy others have this problem... Laci is the biggest pain with the ball its soo annoying sometimes. Ill play ball with her outside or inside for over an hour, then Ill throw it a few more times and let her get it.. from there she sits under the chair and makes this aweful squeaking noise, until I get up and try to chase her around the house, then she hides somewhere with the ball and wants me to throw it but continues to make that noise.. she can do this for several hours... then she buries it in my covers and digs and sleeps with it.. |
Yeah, Rizz has gotten really bad about his ball, so I've taken to putting it away when he starts rolling it under my feet as I'm walking around. He gets really annoyed when I do this and will stare at the spot I put the ball until I can get his attention on something else, usually his Cookie Monster toy (the only toy he has that doesn't squeak :)) Thank goodness others have a pup like him, or I'd feel like I had to take him in to a shrink, lol. |
