That's strange how they're able to eat through them. I have a bone-shaped one that seems to be indestructible. Not even a scratch on it.

I give mine the non-edible too for heavy shewers never had a problem with them but like anything else I always supervise them:rolleyes:

Is there a way to get Gracie to like chewing the nylabone? Recently Gracie was able to chew right through a Kong Wubba toy and I refuse to give her anything that is going to be able to be chewed... BUT.... she has no interest at all in the Nylabones. We bought the chicken flavored non-edible one and she chewed it for a few seconds... then left it sit for days!! She just wants things she can destroy!

The non-edible bones are ok for them. Just as a previous poster said, small shavings will pass easily through their system. The great thing about them, is that they will last much longer. On the other hand, pooches seem to go wild over the edible bones, but they do go very quickly. And, as always you have to watch them with treats and/or toys.:)

Googling about the safety of Nylabones brings up a few sites like the ones above. These seem to be for the non-edible type. They can cause problems and dogs do get small pieces off of them. Non-edible Nylabones are made of nylon and/or rubber. Not a healthy snack... The edible type may be digestible but the ingredients are just a bunch of 'fillers' for the most part it looks like.

I think the one you've got is a "Chocolate" Nylabone-we have one too. The girls don't really like it-more they just carry it around rather than chew on it. The brown stuff is just on the outside, and it comes off with a little wear.

we gave kinnys the edible nylabone and it was gone in a few minutes !! so we bought the non edible ones i think its jerky flavour, she s not bothered with it !! eek !!!

I totally agree! I will not give my pups the edible ones! I remember the horrors of Greenies! I still will not give them even though the company said they fixed the problem.
I only use the hard Nylabones and I watch to be sure they are not chewing anything off of them. My pups love those things!

The package states "Should pass through their digestive systems" it does
not state IT WILL!
Just to let you know the sliver's can cut the wall of the intestines and
bowel area making them bleed.
I have been through it with Buddy and they are very dangerous.
Please don't give your baby plastic nylabones. For a dog that chews these
fragments off your looking at expensive hospitalization possibly.
It cost me $2,200.00 to find out that nylabones are very dangerous to
puppies and dogs.
I totally agree - When I first got Deegan I bought him one. I cant remember if it was edible or not, but I did start to find tiny pieces and shavings off from it. I didn't like that - afterall, even if it says "edible" it's still like a plastic/nylon material and all those chemicals that are used to make it can't be good in their system. Needless to say I never bought them again & never will.

People come on here and ask questions regarding something like
Nylabones then disregard what another say's.:eek: After reading a story
like Buddy's who in their right mind would continue to give their dog
a plastic bone to chew and then say the plastic will come threw!
Sorry but it's so frustrating. If you don't want to go by other's experience
at least don't dismiss the answer to the question.

I have never bought Nylabones. I wasn't sure if they were safe or not. I had heard many different stories , so I decided I just wouldn't start....just in case.

Sydney ( non YOrkie) can destroy even the best of bones. I would never give her the non edible nylabones knowing she would destroy it and eat it . I use to give her rawhide bones (before I found out how dangerous it could be) and she could tear up a 8-10 inch rawhide in two days flat it was shredded ...gone ! :eek: and she is only a 10 lb. dog ! So needless to say ...she loves to chew.

Chloe is small (2.5 lbs) so I don't think she should do much damage to a nylabone, but I won't chance it.

I gave them Kongs ( super strong for Syd) and they seem to like it. I do watch Syd and when she is no longer trying to get the treat out and she starts focusing on destroying it , I take it away :rolleyes:

I give her the biggest Jumbones/ busybones. I know they are filler and crap ...but I would rather her eat that than plastic and rubber till I can find a good alternative.

:thumbup: I agree with you 100% They can be dangerous and I think it is not worth the risk.
Maxi is an intensive chewer so instead of nylabone I get him bully sticks.

:confused: I read all the posts here about the nyla bones and am a little confused about whether these are good chewies or not....I know raw hide is a no-no, and according to some so are both the edible and non-edible nyla bones......From someone who only wants the very, very safest, and best products for my future fur baby....what is the best chew toy for a puppy, and when she gets older? Help! :aimeeyork Thanks!!! :)
