As long as the weather is nice out, I'll take Deegan for about a 45-60 minute long walk. Sometimes he gets tired, sometimes he puts on the breaks when he head back home cause he could go for a while longer. I guess it depends on home much play time and running around he gets at home. But I also just enrolled him in Doggy Day Care too. His first day is tomorrow and that will help keep him active and fit throughout the winter hopefully, since I hibernate during the cold months. Generally we don't walk much in the winter. |
I walk Chase twice a day for 15 to 20 minutes. He loves his walks! He acts like the mayor and has to greet everyone:). |
we walk sammy a few times a week at the park, or just around the neighborhood about 1 hour. he usually is pretty well exhausted when we get home. |
I don't walk Alfie enough! I try to walk him everyday, but the past two days I haven't gotten around to it. He's been running around the house and the backyard, but I still think I need to fit his walks in. He loves them! |
We do about 30 mins. in the morning, 20 midday and 20 at night. On Saturdays we go to a little-dog meetup for an hour and on Sundays we go to a big dog meetup for an hour. |
excercise I find that my Yorki have so much energy I run with it for 40 min every day almost (except the usual brief walks ). It's funny I am knacked after a 40 min proper run in the park and she is just getting ready to play. She saw a vet the other day that said that the dog is exceptionally healthy - she was very fragile when I got her so I do believe that proper exercise is very good for the dog. Just because they look small doesn't mean they are week ... |
I have started walking Cutie (yorkie) and max ( Sheltie) every night with my husband. And it is around 20 to 30 minutes....I carry cutie about 10 minutes of it because she likes being wrapped up in my jacket. She gets cold easily but she loves sniffing around |
I walk Hiro-san for 15-20 minutes a day (about a mile) twice a day 6-7 times a week. Sometimes I slack. The exercise is more for me really but he walks so well and enjoys it so much that I'm lucky. :woof: |
I don't have a Yorkie (hopefully I will soon!), but I walk my current dog once a day. He is 15 and 1/2 years old and doesn't like walks but it is good for him. I can only take him on 15 minute walks or so since I have to carry him one way. He is 28 lbs so it is quite difficult! He doesn't walk away from home, only towards it, so that's what I have to carry him for the first half. If I ever get a Yorkie he/she would go on one walk before school (~15 minutes), a trip to the park at lunch time (~30 mins to 1 hour), and then a walk at night with my old little man (~15 minutes). |
dog walking I walk Trinket 5 X's a week for about 45mins to an hour. I always use a harness in case I have to get her up quickly. We have only been approached once by a loose dog and it was probably harmless but I always carry my phone and a large stick. |
I love the name Twinkle!!! If I ever get a second Yorkie, which I doubt, I would love to use the name....Twinkle. |
Do you ever walk your dog at night~? I walk Maxwell a lot at night and have a leash and now a collar that glows in the dark. I don't know if it a good thing or not to walk him at night, but it seems best for me at times. |
Breyli gets walks 3x a day ranging anywhere from 10-25 min depending on her mood and mine :) |
Dog Walking in Cold Weather? Hi All, We live in the northeast and as of this morning it was 36 degrees. I am a new puppy (yorkie) owner and am unsure how to exercise my baby in the cold weather? We live in a small apartment as out house is being renovated and should be ready next month. Wilbur doesn't have a sibling yet (we are looking to get him one) and he comes to work with me every day - also a small room. I do take him to the local Petsmart so he can run around the aisles but I don't know if that is enough. How do others that live in a seasonally cooler climate exercise their dogs? Thank you! |
zippy 123 I live in Sweden at the moment and have been working in the north of Sweden ( 600 km above the polar circle) and I have a 5 month old puppy. Started to take it out in the cold weather when it was barely 3 months old. Although it's very very cold she is completely fine. The only time when she really freezes is when she gets wet in any way. Recently, since it's now -12C I have been dressing her in a jacket and putting some baby oil on her paws so that the snow don't get stuck and she is completely fine. My advice is , take her out! Just keep a close look and if she gives you any signs that she freezes or want to go inside take her home. Have a lovely day. |
