I don't walk mine. Our property is almost two acres and I just take them out to let them run. Mine have leashes to walk, but when the DH and I take them out, people are always wanting to touch them, and I don't like that, plus there are a lot of other dogs in the neighborhood that want to come up and sniff or lick them. I don't have any way of knowing what those other dogs might be carrying, so I don't like for my dogs to be around other dogs. |
Diddy gets walked 2 x 35 - 45 mins each per day. He loves to walk. I cross over to the other side for large dogs. |
I walk mine 20-30 mins daily. I used to do alot more but that seems to be all they need |
We walk Chloe about 20 minutes about five times a week. We have a very large fenced yard that she love to play in so she gets lots of exercise that way. And we play fetch alot! |
I've been taking Oscar out for about an hour a day, sometimes a couple hours if I'm able. Half of that is leash time and the other half is free play on a sports field. Initially the exercise kept him from tearing my apartment apart, but it seems he's built up a tolerance and his outside time doesn't tire him out a bit! |
There are a lot of people walkin their small dogs here which is good to hear! I understand some of you might to very protective of your babies, but it is so important that your dog goes outside to socialize. It is not enough for them to just run around th house. Imagine you being kept in a house for most of your life, no matter how big it is, it is not healthy. |
On average, 2-3 times a week. |
I usually take mine out several times a day so I guess it might be about 45 min to hour total time. With Maggie being so young, we don't walk as far as we used to and if we do go towards then entrance of my development and back, I will pick her up for a lot of the return trip. |
I walk my girls 3 times a day, 20-40 mins each time...som of the time is off leash in an open field for run & play. On the weekend, they go out about 4 times a day. |
It Changes the Attitude I try to get Johnny out for walks on the trail, a black-topped former railroad line, once a day, maybe a mile or so, and up and down the street and to survey the yard also. He LOVES his walks and learned the word "walk" in a few days. He gets wild if he hasn't had a walk even though he has a fenced in yard, it's not the same as a walk on the trail. Other dogs also worry me even the ones with their owners. Sometimes owners don't know how their dogs will react to the little, excitable ones. :aimeeyork |
Great Topic I just got back from walking my dog. The shortest we walk is 45 minutes. The longest is 1.5-2 hours. I think walking dogs are important for their socialization. We meet up with other dogs and they have bonded. His best friend is a lab/husky mix. He's old and when Maxwell comes around he perks up and runs with him. When I take him in the parks nearby, usually it is once around the lap area which is 30-1 hour. If we meet up with other dogs we are there about an hour plus. |
We walk our babies in shifts usually to work on training, so we take two at a time and we walk about 20 minutes with each group during the week, but sometimes a bit longer. On weekends we take either one really long walk or two shorter walks. I can't imagine not taking my babies out for their walk, it's their favorite part of the day! They pout if I'm sick or busy and miss one of their walks :-p. |
We do 30 to 45 min a day .... that depends on the weather .... ;) She is not to good with other big dogs .... so we walk alone .... :( |
Sapphire only gets walked a few times each summer. I would like to walk her more though, and hope to next summer. Not when it's too hot out though. |
I've only been taking Twinkle for walks for the last few weeks and she really loves it! I take her for about 20mins in the morning to the local park and then again in the evening with my MIL and her shihtzu Mitzy-Tallulah (they're great friends:D) xxx |
